I have a 4-stage RO/DI and when I checked the water that I'm getting out of it using a hand-held TDS meter I got a reading of 2(!). Although that's still quite low (compared to the 85-95 reading I get off my tap water) I was wondering if it is time to change the media in the filter.

If so:

1. Should I change all of the media at the same time?

2. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting the smaller (horizontal) tube (which I think contains the DI media) undone? I've had no success whatsoever in loosening it - even used the "leater belt" trick suggested by the vendor.

Thanks in advance.

Actually 2 is quite good.:) The horizontal cylinder should be the RO membrane. If you're using a prefilter the RO membrane should be good for several thousand gallons of water.
