starting to show a little brown sand, tanks been up for two months or so. i've had it b4 when the tank was cycling, but it went away, now its emerging from the depths again. ammonia, nitrites, nitrares, all at zero. recently got a light upgrade. will a star fish take care of part, all of this problem, i like ham

IMO it's not advisable to add a sea star to a new tank - stars are sensitive to changes in pH and salinity. Give your tank some time to mature.

The diatom bloom is probably due to the light upgrade. It will pass.

If you would like to have creatures to stir the sand, try some nassarius snails, or a Holothuria sp. sand cucumber. These do a good job at "processing" sand and they aren't toxic like some of their cousins.

I agree its lighting. I also have a couple of conches and they do a good job sifting the sand.
