When I was doing my water change today, I moved a piece of branching frogspawn and the branches crumbled.

What could be the cause?

I have low calcium, thats probably it.

The branches below the head (below where the flesh of the coral ends) are dead and will get brittle over time. If your system is low enough on Calcium I suppose it is possible that the skeleton part of the coral could be slowly dissolving to add calcium back to the water column. Tom, Chris or Jerel could probably answer this better than I can.
