Finally got the rest of the bio balls out of the sump/wet-dry filter. Don't really know what to do next. If anything... I may look into building my own sump with a 10-20 gallon tank and some plexiglass depending on what fits under the stand.

cangrats! I got the last of mine out a cpl of weeks ago. My nitrates are the same as before but my corals seem to be happier. I'm looking onto a ro unit maybe that will help with the nitrates

Now, there is nothing wrong with your bio ball-less wet/dry, so there is no absolute need to take it out. That said, building your own sump is fun, ime...and the more water in your system, the better. GOod luck! :)
