i was looking in my tank about 10 minutes ago with a flashlight and saw one of my red scarlet reef hermits almost pick herself out of her shell and release thousands of paticles.
At first i thought i witnessed a Hermit going to the bathroom.
Then I realized that hermit poo doesnt move.
She had babies thousands of them.
my snails went crazy also and all came out under the sand and started eating these little babies.
I simply put a cup in the display tank water and caught about 30-40 of them
is their any way I can care for these babies.
or are they doomed to be snail food?
also are hermits like salmon once they release eggs do they die

This sounds like a time that an established refugium might be of some benefit, hopefully you get a few that make it

biggest problems you'll have will center around:
  • finding suitable food item (daphne, rotifers, etc) tht will not foul the water
  • filtration that will not filter out the fry
  • keeping the other creatures and corals from eating the fry
  • Keeping the fry from eating the fry
Look for the book on raising Peppermint shrimp fry, it will give you much information on how to avoid some of the problems with filtration and how to go about feeding the fry appropriatly.

Good luck!
