my candycane coral is sending out HUGE sweepers recently.... i am curious as to wether or not anyone knows how aggressive these things are. i was planning on keeping this piece for my new tank, but i am trying to go pretty much sweeper free in the new setup.

the sweepers were at one point about twice this length, but by the time i found the camera they were shrinking back in from the lights coming on and the food dissapearing.

any help would be appreciated here.

I second the great photo comment and I wish my camera could do that.

I have never seen mine do this in the past 3 years. Did this happen with the lights on or off? and was it in response to food or plankton being introduced to the tank?

sweepers are mostly out when it is dark, but they will stay out if i am feeding shortly after the lights come on.

here they are normally, in the afternoon, sweeper free.

When we had the shop, ours did the same thing. Most of the time it only happens at night when they eat. I never saw it "sting" anything around it. I think they are just catching plankton.

Mine do this all the time but I have nothing close enough for them to come in contact with so I do not know if they sting or not
