<HR style="COLOR: #ffffff" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->:help: Can anyone please tell me if this is bacteria or algae? It has begun to cover my tank in certain spots!! I have one 2x65watt
lights that are only on for exactly 8 hrs. from 11a.m to 7p.m on timer.... I have been searching the net trying to find a good pic of it. I ve' uploaded a few pics as well. It is brown/red its on the tank and on the sand!!! Here are the pics

Also is it from being a new tank? (up and running for about 2 months)and please tell me how to get rid of it!!!! It is truly unsightful!!!!!!!

looks like diatom to me... seems a little on the late side at two months but its completely normal and will go away in 10-20days. (btw, from the looks of the pics, it will get worse before it gets better) Just keep cleaning it off the glass... it should pass shortly.

The algae your getting is pretty normal, I have to clean my tanks at least once a week... Try a Mag-Float or similar, Wal-Mart has a blue scoth-brite type pad on a long handle that works great on a 55 gal (it's only like $3 or $4)... It should come right off. Just wait til the coralline starts, that's when cleaning becomes fun.. :rolleyes:

As far as it being on the sand, you may want to increase flow in those areas and get some critters that stir up your sand bed...
