10 gal sump

I want to set up a 10 gallon sump for my nano. I have searched and searched for easy to follow instructions on how to do it but my efforts have been fruitless. I want to add to the total volume of water being that i only have an 11 gal aquarium. I want it to have a skimmer and a refugiium. Can ya'll help me PLEASE!!! I'm obsessed. Depends on what you want for a skimmer. A counter current skimmer works in a refugium. My son has a 20 ga refugium/sump for a 10 gal nano.
He used a divider and eggcrate to seperate the pump way against the refugium half.
