yes it is a waterprof heater, i was worried becouse it said it had to be fully submerged, but no prob, and yes i have my system on a GFI, but i'm working on a whole new system there.

That means it's not.It's a ground probe that goes into the tank and otherside to a ground to keep stray voltage out of the tank to protect you and the live things in your tank.

ya, the hood i made for under $12 with glue and materials, and the stand for about $40

and i got the tank at petco for their $1 a gal sale so it was $55

I'm a low budget reefer, but i think it looks good. I'm going to post a DIY thread about the complete build project..

Your post on the 29 gal mentioned "skimmer soon to be replaced by mangroves". Is that apples to apples? I thought mangroves pull phosphates out like cheato or other macro algaes, but that doesn't sound like it would do the job of a skimmer.

I still don't have mangroves, but this is what i was going by...

Mangroves are fed by absorbing nutrients and organics from the water, which in turn creates a natural filter for cleaning water. Mangroves not only have the ability to absorb nitrates, but phosphates and other organics as well. In fact, they remove organics so well from the water that they act as a replacement for a protein skimmer.

Tank looks great! I have a similar looking set up and used a black backround and It looks awsome. It really cleans up the tank by hiding wires and ties in the black stand/canopy....Just my 2 cents. Its cheap to do too.

1/4 of the back is black, but the wife compromise what that i didn't paint it, and i could keep it in our room(didn't tell her i got the tank till she saw it in the car)...
