I have seen Starphire next to regular glass, and it is noticeable, but personally I don't think that regular glass is that bad. That one is up to you. Also, I think the coast-to-coast overflow is nice, but is definitely not a necessity. I agree that replace is a better option than repair.

I have an acrylic tank and a glass tank. I am never setting up an acrylic tank again.

I would suggest running filter socks when siphoning. That way, it'll collect up and detritus in the water column and you don't have to clean them every few days. Or do what I started doing recently. Siphon out of your DT and into your sump through a filter sock. No water removed, but plenty of gunk removed.
