Had these for about six weeks. They're finally starting to reproduce (from one polyp) and have five tiny young ones. They're about 13" under 130 watt pcs. Should I move them higher for faster growth or leave them alone? I have a nice spot about 8" under the lights.

Hi all, I've been in the hobby now for about a year... I have had 2 14g BioCubes and I kept a 1.5g Picotope tank for a little while also. As you might imagine I am fast out-growing my current 14g BioCube so I am now ready to upgrade to something a bit bigger. I have chosen the 40g Breeder...

Well, I've got a very unhappy xenia, I've had it 6 months or so, and it has been doing quite well, having split twice, and growing well. around the middle of Dec. I took a piece that had detached from the main plant and moved it to my frag tank 'fuge. There it has happily started to grow. Dec...

OK, I'm guilty of it yet again, a impulse buy from the LFS. I was hoping to get either a skunk cleaner shrimp or a scarlet cleaner shrimp, but the store was sold out. But they had many true peppermint shrimp (Lysmata wurdemani) and on ale to boot at $4.00 each. I've had one before and don't...

I just noticed a rather large hole in the stalk of my yellow leather. It has been droopy and shedding for several days now. I pickked up the rocked that is on and flakes of tissue came off of it. Should I call it a gonner and remove it form the tank? I have never fragged anything before and...

I came up with the following list last night while looking through "a pocketexpert guide - Marine Invertebrates". The following corals require "moderate" light and not a lot of supplemental feeding; I'm looking for easy maintenance @ this point. I don't want to deal with chemical warfare...

Ok, my xenia is getting huge. So big that new ones are growing sideways. I know that people trim these things all the time. Here's my question: Since all these corals are living creatures, do they feel pain? There is no way that I'm going to be able to cut one of these if I think it may be...

Cyanos are responsible for giving the stonies thier asthetically pleasing appearance. In low nutrient environments they have a metabolic advantage over zoox, ergo they are the most visible. Why then do alcyonaceans and other hexacorallians maintain their vividly bright colorations in even the...

Hi, In the past I have tried to keep xenia in my tank. Unfortunately, I cannot get them to thrive in my tank. All levels are good and the only thing I can think of is lighting. I currently have a 260W PC fixture, but I plan to get a fixture w/ 2 400w HQIs running 10000K bulbs, 2 65w...
