Ok, here's my first attempt of building, and for that matter owning a reef tank. I've had a small 16 gal nano for almost 2 years and have had mixed sucsess with it, so ive decided to go big. I've built a 62" long, by 20" wide, by 25" tall (135 gallons) 1/2" acrylic tank. I had the two front...
Im in the process of making a lighting fixture for my new tank. the dimensions are 62" long, 25" tall, and 20" deep. I was planning on using 2- 250 watt 10k mh, with 2 48" 110watt vho super actinic. My question is is more light alwasys better? Should I move up to 400 watt instead of the 250's...
I'm in the process of building a 150gal reef tank. I'm working on the lighting fixture and the top cabinet. The question that I have is, is there a general rule on how high above the tank I should mount the lighting fixture. The fixture itself is 2- 250 watt mh, 10000k, with 2 48" vho super...
90 gallon tank
Currently have 4 VHO super actinics with 660 ballast, 2 standard blue actinics with ballast. Corals seem to be doing fine but i think they would color up a lot better with MH. How can i add MH? Will i need another ballast? Will i need a chiller? Currently have fan blowing down...

Well we talked about substrates, we talked about Live rock..
So i figure the next topic should be on flow.
My thoughts are hitting this in two areas. possible three .
what is flow, why is it important, is it really? what does it do for our tanks? for our corals?
Flow and parameters?

My girlfriend and I are planning to invest in a 4' 250 watt MH lighting system for our 55 gallon reef setup which we would like to keep stonies in. I have narrowed my search into two favorites: the Coralife Aqualight Pro with 250 watters, Actinic PC's, and moonlights vs. a PFO 250 watter with...
I bought a leather last Saturday and all seems well. I've attached a picture so let me know if I'm not correct in my assessment.
For fathers day, I can get something new. I've have my eye on an Open Brain Coral (Trachyphyllia). I'm wondering what the difficulty level is. Would there be...
I'm looking at setting up another tank, more specifically transfering the contents from my 20L into a 30 breeder. Ideally I would like to move into a 40 breeder for the extra height but the place I'm moving into has a 30 gallon limit. I've been considering my lighting options and I'm undecided...
