Haha, oops. Took to long to attach the poll it seems. That’s what I get for multitasking at work. Well here is the actual poll for those who want to play along. -AR

Reefers, Another question for this crazy bunch. Again I feel like most here know the pros and cons for the different substrate choices out there but I’m curious what are we all running in our beautiful eco systems at home? Again a comment for the main reason for you decision is awesome if...

Someone told me that sand is a thing of the past and that they only run crushed coral now. They said sand will kill corals and that they never recommend it unless it is a FO tank. This was a guy at the LFS and he said they never use sand in their tanks. Any thoughts on this?

I added sand to a 5 gallon and ever since, it's been super cloudy the entire time. No matter how many water changes I do. The cloudiness will not go away. Should I buy something to help or just get rid of the sand or be patient? It's been about 3 weeks since the sand was added.

Hello everyone! I’m getting back into the saltwater aquarium hobby after being out of it for almost 20 years. Got busy with kids and coaching and gave it up for a while. Kids are grown now and I’m really excited about getting back into maintaining a saltwater FOWLR tank. I'm in the process...

I'm feverishly researching for my 185G build (Thread Here) and am/was planning a faux sand bed. However, pretty much all the pictures of good looking tanks I find online have substrate. Almost all the youtube videos of good looking tanks have substrate. Most of the time I read posts discussing...

Hi all! This is my first post here, so if I am doing something wrong, please inform me! A little background first... I have been operating freshwater aquariums since I was six years old, and have decided to move onto saltwater. My current plan for the new aquarium is a 50-60g tank w/fish and...

Was just curious if anybody on here has tried some of the play sands you can get from your local hardware stores? One name that kept coming up was Pavestone. Anybody know if this is reef safe?

Lets discuss the recommended way to setup a Reef tank. Lets discuss what LFS recommend, and what you would recommend to somebody just getting into the hobby. What are some aspects that are easily overlooked when setting up a new system? G~

Hello TRT! I'm new to this site, so forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place. I'm in need of some help here and hoping to find it. I woke up this morning to find a cloudy tank. It has the milky appearance, if that helps. Here's the setup/backstory: It's a 54G marineland tank running...

I would like to hear how the community cleans the substrate in their tanks. I have aragonite sand, and every time I try to clean it, I end up sucking out a lot. Is there a way to avoid this that I'm just not aware of? Sorry for the noobish question, but this is preventing me from doing...

Everyone's favorite subject, SUBSTRATES! Not to worry, however, as I am not starting a long open-ended dispute about the propitious effects a bare bottom tank may have over a deep sand bed, no. Today I am going to answer a question I had about a year ago. What is this magical looking pure...

So I'm starting up a reef tank (my first wish me luck!!!), and I heard fine sand is good for surface area and DSBs. So i grabbed some Oolitic Aragonite sand (Top Fin), washed it thoroughly and then put it down, cup by cup, and mixed with some bought live and and donor live sand. The the sand...

Ok guys, I've read some the the threads on the sand issue but figured I'd make a new thread for a slightly different question. I've read all the debate on reef sand vs play sand and honestly instead of cutting corners money wise I'm going to go with the actual reef sand. Simply because there is...

Hey guys, I currently have a 32 gallon cube. Measurements are 50 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm. It is currently a freshwater setup, but somewhere in the future, might decide to make it a mini reef setup tank. THe specs of the tank are as follows. 32 gallon Cube (50 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm) Atman 3335 Canister...

:wavey:I have been looking, looking, looking, and never found any answers. I have been doing regular water changes on my 40 gallon breeder tank that started with about a 1 inch deep sand bed. When I change my water, I use a siphon and suck out the bottom of the tank, which causes some of the...

Hey yall, I was wondering how I would go about replacing/adding new sand to a reef tank. I have had the tank for about year or so now and I was just wondering what I would have to do? Also, I have researched some on my own. Some people say that adding new live sand to your tank can cause it to...
