So lately I've been having hell with hair algae and different kinds of algae. I figured something died in my tank and it is causing an issue. No biggie, threw in some phosphate remover, upped the water change intervals, etc. Then I've noticed that all of my corals have been absolutely pissed...

So I lost my RG today due to ich and my YCG a few days ago to starvation. My tank parameters and info is in that thread. Someone there mentioned checking stray voltage so I did. I'm not an expert on reading a multimeter but this is what I did. I put the grounding probe in the wall outlet and...

I have seen posts asking about how to tell if there is stray voltage in the tank...I was cleaning out a lot of LR today and just got home from the LFS. I noticed a mushroom had fallen off the rock I tried to get it to attach to, so grabbed a long handled scraper and "ZAP"...I got a jolt when my...

I was reading a few articles about stray voltage in tanks, and read about grounding probes. They are actually very affordable. They carry away stray voltage that can be caused by pumps, heaters, lights and other electrical devices that can be harmful to your inhabitants and possibly yourself...

Out of couristiy I tested my tank for stray voltage. I took my multimeter Put the blac to the ground on my strip and the red to the tank I got a reading of .6 volts. I unplugged each thing one by one and still read .6. I just turned the strip off and still got .6. Unplugged my lights off the...

So I was doing some surfin' on the interwebs for info on grounding probes and how to test your aquarium for stray voltage when I found something quite contrary to what most people say. http://angel-strike.com/aquarium/GroundingProbes.html I get his point that you shouldn't use grounding probes...

I borrowed a digital multimeter from my dad, 'cause we've had a couple weird things going on with the tank that don't have any of the usual sources. Anyway - Black probe went where the grounding prong belongs, and when we touched the red probe to the water, the reading jumped from 1.2 to 21...

My anemone was looking strange tonight, closed up and his mouth was open a little so I got my husband to check for stray voltage. Wow, that helped. NOT! With everything running when we first checked we got 43V. The reading ranges from 9 to 18 per piece of equipment using 200V AC the...

Noticed today that my plug connectors had become corroded so I took a little 600 grit sandpaper and knocked the corrosion off. How often do we need to do this so there is not a short due to corrosion inhibiting the plug from getting ground or common? Also check for stray voltage as I could feel...

I am now on my third heater and yet again I have stray voltage. This last one I bought from a local fish store last month and I have the receipt so I am hoping they will take it back and give me store credit towards a new heater. What are the better heaters on the market that don't cost and arm...

I'm getting 1.8volts from each of my (2) Gen-x 1500 needle wheel skimmer pumps! I'm also getting 1 volt from my heater coil, and .2 volts from somewhere maybe my submersible lunar lights. Is a grounding rod really the answer, or should I replace my heater coil and skimmer pumps?
