I got a new coral today, and in the bag was what I thought was a small snail. But then I saw several arms come out, and quickly shoot/stretch them incredibly far for its size, and it started pulling itself around. Its fairly active and not necessary slow, either. I can't really tell if its in a...

I got a Harlequin Shrimp 4 days ago and I was told that it was eating Astrenias at my LFS. I have a Chocolate Chip starfish in there for it but it doesn't seem to care. The starfish is the biggest CC I have ever seen probably 6-7 inches across and the shrimp is probably .75 inches. So is the...
  3. Crustaceans
Hello everyone- Have a brittle starfish that came with my live rock. I fished it out of the live rock before curing. Looks like I got all of the pieces. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for ensuring that any missed legs do not come to life? Thanks!

Our serpent starfish has been acting weird, had a hole in its head that looked like it was on its back and you were looking at its mouth, the hole filled back, then the main body grew darker while the legs seem to fade. Is this the sign of old age in a starfish? :(

Have a 90 gal established for allmost 2 years now and was looking into some starfish. 1) First off mixing species is ok with stars? 2) second serpent and brittle starfish. Which ones are reef safe, peaceful and don't get huge. (if I must get a huge peaceful one then I could get one small.) 3)...

Hello everyone! I am curious how hard it is to keep a starfish. I want one myself, but dont know if it will be happy in my tank. Does my tank have to be a certain age before getting one? What do they eat? What kinds of starfish are reef safe? Etc. I won't be getting one anytime soon, just...

Hey, I just bought everything to set up my tank and about 2 mintues after everything was set up, I saw a little starfish on the back of my tank! If you could give me tips and identify it for me would be great. Sorry that the photos are still bad, water is murky.

I've recently put paraguard in my tank to treat my tang from whitespot but my starfish keeps curling its legs? What does this mean? I've put it in my quarantine tank but will this be enough? Thanks

Help! I'm fairly new to saltwater tanks and have had mine set up for a few months. I recently got a Blue Linckia Sea Star about a week and a half ago. I acclimated him per the instructions and the first day he climbed all over the tank. For the next few days he sat in one spot on the glass, I...

Hi we just found this guy in our tank. He came out of the live rock we just got. Is this a friendly starfish with a "coral" tank & "fish?" Also what type is he? He's green in color when we put a light to it but looks brownish without a light. Thanks in advance!

New to the forum, but not to the hobby. I've read a lot about Sand Sifting Stars, how they're good, bad, and whatever... In any event, I was cleaning the sand bed last night, and stupidly pinched off one of my starfish's legs. I heard that if one of these things die, it'll nuke the tank...

So while I think these guys are super cool looking, they have been taking out some prized possessions in my 600g reef tank. So far I am sure they have been devouring every peppermint shrimp I drop in, as well as a few different fish. Most devastating was them killing my giant clam and possibly...

Hello all, I found around 4-6 of these starfish in my tank and was hoping to get some kind of ID on them. Thank you
  14. Anemones
I have an aneomone tank with a couple bubble tips, a Percula clown, and a linkia starfish. I'd like to put a shrimp in as well. I had peppermints and a pistol in before but a brittle star that I recently got rid of ate almost everything but the anemones and the clown. Any fun shrimp that will...

I recently added some hermit crabs and snails to my new tank. The next day I found this guy crawling around the glass. Is this a starfish? Is he OK to leave in the tank?

So my tanks been up for almost two months now but I haven't really added anything more than 2 "starter" fish and 4 emerald crabs (they came with some LR). About 2 weeks ago I added a UV sterilizer because the tank had a bad algae bloom. Since the algae has started to go away I've noticed some...

Hello, I have a Sailfin Tang who has come down with a nasty case of the Ich. He's currently in a 20g hospital tank, however I am afraid that he has also infected the display tank. I bought some Kordon Ich Attach and would like to use some of it in the DT to be sure nothing else gets infected...

My mini brittle starfish never come out of their rocks. I normally do a 10 gallon water change weekly with a 20 gallon change once a month or so on my 75 gallon. Tank has been up and running since February and at this water change - all the starfish came out and climbed to the top of the rocks...
