I thought this is only happen because i don't have any rocks but i was wrong.
sands at some small spots are slowly moving and becoming completely bare bottom.
Wavemakers are all pointed to the surface.
what may have caused this and how do I fix it?
don't want to keep moving it manually...
Hi, this came from a thread I started about cooking rock, but it ended up morphing into several questions I had about phosphates and sand beds after doing a ton of reading on here. I thought it was more of a think tank topic, so I'm asking these questions here. I feel like I almost understand...
My 46 gal softie reef crashed a few months back and im still on the road to recovery. I removed all the old sandbed, scrubbed the rocks and put it all back together with no sand. I dont have enough flow or a good enough skimmer to have a bb tank. I was just wondering if I could add a SSB...
After I had ordered the sand (but before I put it in)
I looked in the tank and thought that it looked good bare bottom.
But then I figured, since I have it I have the sand I may as well put it in.
So here I am looking at it again and thinking about bare bottom again.
What are the...
Hey Now Spanky,
I was doing some searching and found an old thread of good ways of running a softie tank. You mentioned that you would maintain a 1-2inch oolitic bed so you can get some denitrification and slow release of P.
Would you still run a softie tank this way?
I read just recently...
ok so I have a question...
when I go to change water to get out the crap on the bottom of the sand bed should I use my handy dandy plastic tube to suck out stuff like I would my fresh water? If the answer is yes, aren't I sucking out things in my sand bed that are alive and I want there?
I hear talk of sump, as you can tell I am new, what is it?
Better yet I bought this filter:
Amiracle Pro-Line PL-3000 Wet Dry Filter w/ dual protine skimmers
It was expensive and I...
Is it good practice to use a powerhead and blow as much detritus off the LR before doing water changes? When I do this alot of crap comes out of the lr crevices. I'm just not sure if this is a good thing or not.
Hi I just joined this forum yesterday. I've never been in a forum before so take it easy on me.
I haven't bought anything yet and don't intend to do so for awhile. That is the first thing i discovered is it can be very exspensive. So to save myself from wasting a lot of money and...
I have been cycling my tank. I put the cured LR in on 2-11th and I put the lights up on 2-16th.
Before I added it the water test showed:
pH 7.9 Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrates 10
The day after Amonia .25 Nitrite .25 pH 7.9 Nitrate 40
On the 21st I did a W/C after more water test
Hello all. Relatively new to the forums (considering my last activity was over 2 years ago).
I was out and down to a mini reef, but just like Michael Corleone, every time I think I'm out, they drag me back in.
I am debating deep sand bed vs. plenum. I know both are good nitrate controllers...
I am new to the hobby/board.
I just got my wet/dry filter to go with my tank, so now I have to decide what to put in the tank (sand, rock)....Any thoughts on the best way to do this/what kinds of sand to use?
Also any ideas on how to get help setting up the filter system?
I have an AG 120. It has the overflows in the two back corners. Can I add a Coast to Coast CLS inlet to it?
How would I attach the Acrylic to the back of the tank?
How big should it be?
What size bulkheads/Inlets?
Seems to me there is a lot of debate about dsb and bb. I like shallow sand beds of less than 1 inch. I really like the way sand looks on the bottom of the tank. I actually don't know the advantages and disadvantages of the shallow sand bed. Can someone explain it to me?
I'm sure there has been some discusion on this but, I'm gonna bring it up any how. I started a thread in DIY and about making a new tank and restarted it again in general but got no replies... well a couple. So, now it has turned, not into help with plumbing or skimmers or lights, but on DSB or...
