I've searched the forums and haven't found a solid answer, so posting here.
I've had a 3" or so sand bed in my refugium (10" x 7") for years. I've read all the stories about it being a bad idea and the ticking time bomb...
I'd like to finally remove it now but curious to those that have done...
Haha, oops. Took to long to attach the poll it seems. That’s what I get for multitasking at work.
Well here is the actual poll for those who want to play along.

Reefers,
Another question for this crazy bunch. Again I feel like most here know the pros and cons for the different substrate choices out there but I’m curious what are we all running in our beautiful eco systems at home?
Again a comment for the main reason for you decision is awesome if...
Someone told me that sand is a thing of the past and that they only run crushed coral now. They said sand will kill corals and that they never recommend it unless it is a FO tank. This was a guy at the LFS and he said they never use sand in their tanks. Any thoughts on this?
Hello all- I recently purchased a Biocube 32!! I am setting up the live rock and sand this weekend and was looking for suggestions for how to put it all together. Any recommendations would be awesome. Thanks all. :worm:
My Innovative Marine Nuvo fusion all in one setup arrived today. its the 30 gallon long setup. Looking forward to my first nano. i normally always go big, but would like to try and see if I'm skilled enough to maintain a smaller system.

I added sand to a 5 gallon and ever since, it's been super cloudy the entire time. No matter how many water changes I do. The cloudiness will not go away.
Should I buy something to help or just get rid of the sand or be patient? It's been about 3 weeks since the sand was added.
Evening all, normally when I join a forum I'll go through a more friendly and traditional route of joining and introducing myself but the need for a bit of advice has catalysed the process straight into asking for a bit of help.
I've had fish tanks for years, started fresh then went tropical...
I have been having issue with what appears to be green hair algae on some of my rocks and a purple/red algae on my sand bed since I setup this tank about 1 year ago. I have slowly been removing some of my current sand and a week ago I added new sand to replace it. I did not have a deep sand bed...
I want to know why i get a diatom bloom every time I clean my sand bed. I thought cleaning the sand bed would help PREVENT any sort of diatoms or algae blooms. I do 10 Gallon water change on my 6 month 75 gallon reef tank every other week. When I leave the sand bed untouched or do not blow...
I have added a Yasha goby to a coral bed tank. I addressed this issue on another forum. I am going to replace my crushed coral bed with sand. How should I go about this? Should I use live sand? Will this stress my fish? Should I remove all crushed coral? Do I need to remove inhabitants? Thx in...
Hey guys,
I've had my reef tank for about 3-4 months now and during the 3 month mark, I had a big tank crash which was caused by the unnoticed death of my mandarin goby. When i found the goby, only skeleton was left. The tank water turned yellowish brown and I did 50% water change which did not...
I made my intro on here probably 2 weeks ago.
