So me and my mom seem to be butting heads about useing reef buffer. A really naoligeble guy at my LFS said that for the health of the corals reef buffer will have to be used eventually. He is really nice and knows what he is talking about, but I have to disagree with him on this one. My mom...

I just ran all tests on my 180 and the calcium is now an issue as well. It tested for nearly 600 ppm. My alk is low and I am having trouble raising it. All corals look fine, but I need to get this issue in check. I dont think its the test kit since everything else tested fine. How are Alk and...

Just wanted to say hello, and let everyone know that we got in a nice order of corals and fish Monday. All the prices should be relatively reasonable. We also have fragged a large Aussie Duncan into about 20 pieces. They are $40/polyp. Ranging in size from 1-4 polyps. Ora Fish, Corals, and...

I have a Gen-X CO2 regulator by pacific coast imports. It has a solenoid and a needle from MRC http://www.myreefcreations.com/caaccessories.htm at the bottom of the page. Currently the regulator is putting out an output pressure of 25. That is just a touch higher than I want. There isn't any big...

I never completely understood how to dose alk as something stand alone. I've always used kalking wasser with evaporation to take care of my problem; but lately this isn't keeping up with the consumption. I just let the CaCl dissolve in 1 gallon of water and add it to the tank for calcium...

I don't understand why our calcium and alk balance is so off. We have been trying to raise the alk, which is at 2.0 mEq last reading (last night), with calcium at 400, but if calcium is at 400, shouldn't our alk be higher? Very confused... any help? Also, when we are trying to keep the levels...

I have a 12 gallon nano that has been set up for about three months now. I did all my cycling and added livestock slowly. My ammonia was good in the beginning after my cycle. I waited about a month before I added anything. For the past two weeks I've been doing water changes every other day...

Ok my tanks been up and running for a year now and I can't seem to keep my PH up. I've used reef buffer by seachem and it works but it goes right back down after a few weeks. Now I add a small amount to every other days make up water. This seems to be keeping my PH up. Is this safe? I figure...

OK.... when I started my tank back in 03 I had a colt coral in there for over a year as well as a ton of polyps. All flurished! then all of a sudden everything started to die. water parameters are fine. I thought it was my tank inhabitants picking at them.... I was wrong. I then thought...

I just tested my tank water and my Salifert Ph test says between 8.0 and 8.4 ( I'm thinking around 8.2 as it is much greener than 8.0 but not as green as 8.4) and my neptune systems ph probe (that I just calibrated using ph7 and ph 10 solutions) says 7.98 - 8.02. Which one should I believe?
