rapid tissue necrosis

  1. SPS Coral Forum
I am having a tough time with RTN in my community reef tank. My softies and LPS seem to thrive. Several of my SPS seem to do well for a few weeks and then I can see it start to form with bleaching and loss of tissue from the bottom spreading rapidly to the top. I have been dipping my new...

Hey everybody, about a week ago i bought my first sps frag. i got it home, drip acclimated it turned my LEDs down, and put it in a moderate flow area. within 24 hours it was fully bleached, the guy at my LFS said it was RTN. He asked me to bring in a sample of my water so he could test it, which...

The more I read the more lost I am becoming...how do you know what to get? It doesn't seem like most places are sizing to the tank volume, but beside that I guess my real question is if you can go smaller and if you do- does it just take more time? When I read about a media like rowaphos, well...

Ok - so as a TRT newbie... :p I get lost constantly with all of the abbreviations and acronyms that you all use! How about replying with some that you normally use and what they mean! Then maybe I can start to understand some of these posts!

OK so here is the deal I have various sps that I was given in July of this year that have been growing well and showing great color and pe ect. up until about a week or so ago. I noticed the color going MUCH lighter. I have seen RTN - boy that happens quick, and i am hoping that this is not...

I've had this a week, it's been doing fine. I have other sps corals, all doing wonderful. But I just noticed today that it's flaking off at the base. Any ideas what this could be from? I had a powerhead hitting it, that I've now moved. Could that have caused it to flake off like that? And...

So I had a few SPS frags about 6 months ago... acropora/montipora frags. They all got RTN after a month or so... except for one montipora cap..which is still growing ( slowly but surely ). Not really sure what caused it at this point... but was thinking of trying a couple more frags and see...

I intended on whacking off about twenty 2" arms off of this coral..........When all said and done I ended up whacking a whole lot more than that off to save it. I thought i would share some pics. I always take pics of this b-nest when i go to frag it as think it looks really cool out of the...

Ok, I'm taking a poll About RTN (rapid tissue necrosis). I recently read that there is some evidence that RTN can be linked to mixed reef tanks (SPS and softies), but that skimming and carbon may help reduce the risk of RTN. So I'm asking those who may have experianced RTN questions about it.

Due to the need to frag an Acro Milli in an attempt to save it from RTN, I wanted to post a question as to the general tools needed frag SPS. I have seen kits on foster and smith.com as well as various tools and I was wondering if someone could give me a list of good tools (cutters), glues, and...

  13. Tank Specs
I have more than one tank, will add others later. Pardon the mess - fighting with it all the time. While I'm able to keep most of corals and filter-feeders alive and well, I have to change setups (and add the new nano-tanks) to fit their needs, not set the tank and fill it with animals who...

Not sure if anyone is interested but I traded a few emails with Eric Borneman on some concerns that I had about GSP in my tank. I thought I would share some of his input (as he was nice enough to reply to me). I hope he does not mind. His comments are in Blue. My specific concerns were about...

I am thinking of picking up a phosban ractor to help with my phophate levels. I have read a couple post on here recommend NOT to run the full amount of phosban as recommend by the instructions with the unit. Something about causeing rapid tissue necrosis or causing iron poisoning? Can anyone...

Milli! The pics are not so good, hopefully someone will be able to chime in... This is the only coral that seems to be affected. I can post system specs later if needed. Then only change I have done lately is removed the carbon from the system. (GF ball valve broke!) Thanks, Kevin

I know something is stressing my kids out again because i am seeing some while tips. I do have a problem with one of my sps frags in particular. while all the rest are growing this one hasn't grown an inch. now it has this strange type of bleaching going on again. it isn't a white bleach though...
