My name is Kurt and I am new to TRT. I have been reading many of the discussions and checking out all the nice tanks that you guys have. I am building a reef tank for my son to give us something to work on together and give him something to watch before going to sleep. I have had...
I have a 150 reef tank and I'm having a bit a a algae problem(started another thread about that). This has made me wonder if I have enough guys and girls in my clean up crew? I have about 5 turbo snails and about 5 hermit crab along with a bullet goby and a sand sifting conch.
I started my 29 FOWLR tank about a month ago. It's finished cycling with 16lbs of LR and currently houses some margarita snails, nassarius snails, and some blue-legged hermit crabs.
Although some of the margaritas have fell victim to the crabs... despite many extra shells laying around, I...
The LFS said I was ready for snails and crabs, but I still don't have a ton of algae growth in the tank or other fish...
What and how much should I be feeding nassarius snails... margarita snails... and blue-legged hermit crabs?
We have a green hair algae problem in our seahorse tank. Last weekend, we went on all the boards looking for a solution that is safe for our horses...
We found "Halloween Hermits" (AKA Ciliopagurus strigatus) to have an appitite for the algea we had, and they were small enough to not...
Well, last time I used astrea, mexican turbos, nassarius vibex, illynassa obsoleta, blue leg hermits and scarlet hermits. The whole atlantic inverts in a tank packed with pacific corals. This time I am leaning towards a south pacific only tank. Kind of silly I know. The pacific is a Huge area...
I lost most of my clean up crew in the plastic tub basement reef.
Astreas, turbo, nassarious, cucumbers, and fire shrimp perished.
I have a few limpets and one turbo snail left I think.

Ok - so I'm wanting some suggestions for a clean up crew for my 12g Nano...
I don't think what I have now is enough...
It's a 12g nano w/ a young pair of maroon clowns, live rock and their anemone...
Right now I have 2 Astraea Snails, 4 Nassarius Snails and 1 tiny hermit...
I usually get nassarius snails to do my dirty work but they prefer sand. What are some great snails that will fit well in a bare bottom tank?
I know I can get some astrea's but also want a variety. Are Cerith's out? don't they also like sand to dig in?
For just under a year, I've been stalking the forums to learn as much as possible before building my first reef tank. What began as a 72G bow has been revised to a 30g nano after learning of a job change that will move me across the country. I just finished the tank and stand two weeks ago, so I...
