So I haven't been the best with keeping track of my parameters the past few months, as everything up until now was consistent. I tested my DT water yesterday and my New Salt Water as well. Below were my findings... DT SG 1.026 Ca 425 Mg 975 Alk 6.72 pH 8.27 Temp 77.8 NEw saltwater (power...

Please help. Today I am mixing saltwater for my tank and the first 2 buckets were easy - no off readings and no trouble. The salt wasn't in a rock or anything. This new box though, was almost completely made into a rock. I figured I would try it and now all the readings with my hydrometer are...

Evening everyone I opened a new bag of Instant Ocean Reef Crystals which I've been using for 3 years to mix a new batch of salt water and it won't go into solution. It's been sitting in RO/DI water for 3 days now with a heater and won't dissolve. I don't have a powerhead in the 5 gallon...

Hey all. I have recently set up my little biocube 14 (3 days ago). Right now I have about 7lbs of live rock, 10lbs of regular sand (Natures Ocean), and a Eheim Jager 50w heater. Yesterday I went and bought some Instant Ocean Bio Spira. I have never used the "instant cycle" chemicals before so I...

Last couple of times I have tested, my alk was 4.9, figured water changes would slowly bring it back into check, so I tested my Instant Ocean mis and it was 4.57 with Salifert and 5.03 with Red Sea. And the Red Sea are new test kit. Emailed IO to see what they say and ask what it should be.

I recently filled up my tank from LFS water (no RO/DI unit yet) and the SG is reading at 1.018 with an instant ocean hydrometer I just purchased. Are these hydrometers reliable? Refractometer isn't in the budget for a while.

Couldn't sleep last night and stayed up late lurking about the forum and watching tv when one of those "how do they do it?" shows came on and it was maintaining the Georgia Aquarium. It was only a 7-10 minute segment so they didn't get too in depth but I thought it was kinda interesting that...

For some reason one day the top 3 inches of my bucket got rock solid to the point that I had to use a steak knife to chop it up into small enough pieces to brake up into salt again. The seal on the bucket looks fine and to my knowledge there was never a time where the lid was left open for an...

I got a free instant Ocean Protien Skimmer from a friend and I want to put it on my 20 gallon long tank but every review I read about them is horrible?! Why are they so bad?! Please let me know!!!!

Hey everyone, i have another question. I have a 90 gallon reef tank thats been setup for only about four months now. I have my corals and fish and so far everything is good. My question is, why do people use kalwasser and why does it make so much of a difference than using something like kents...

I was just curious if anyone had used this salt mix and what they thought. I just mixed a batch up for my daughters Nano tank. We will see. I started hers with Ocean water and mine with Instant Ocean Reef salt, then changed to Seachem Reef Salt now to this Salinity Reef Salt. Which I guess is...

I am working on starting up my tank and getting the SG up to where I would like it, around 1.025. I have no living items in the tank right now I am using instant Ocean salt and mixing that with RODI water When following the directions on the bag I am getting around 1.020 SG. Should I assume...

I currently use instant ocean salt mix, but would like to try the instant ocean reef crystals. I have consistent pH of 8.3-8.4 with the normal one, and is the reef crystals one consistent in pH, alkalinity, etc? What are your experiences with it, and what are your water tests results?(including...

There is a great deal going on Instant Ocean salt right now. If you'd like any number (1- 100 or more :) ) of 200ga box of Instant Ocean let me know by Sunday. It is $32 a box, must be prepaid, and would prefer expedient pickup. Thanks, Scott

I ordered a couple of new fish from Liveaquaria.com and they sent a pack of the new Instant Ocean Marine Blend Omnivore Diet Gel for free. Seems like a good idea. Doesn't need refrigerated and comes in 20 single serve pouches. Funny thing is that the clownfish in either of my tanks won't...

So I just ordered TMPC from Drs. Foster and Smith. I tried to use the $5 gift cert I got from ordering the "problem" RC. The gift cert had expired so I called and asked them if there was some way to get it renewed. When she looked it up she acknowledged that the gift cert was from purchasing on...

With all the issues I have had (and others apparently as well)with Reef Crystals, I am changing salts. Time to buy! Looking at salt prices, these are the ones I am considering (5g. Buckets): Coralife: $44.99 (150g) Red Sea: $49.99 (200g) Red Sea Coral Pro: $54.99 (175g) Kent: $52.99 (200g)...
