Well, after a serveral years away from the hobby I'm back. Lucky me... my wife is the person intiating this, so I get to do it my way. It will be SPS dominated. I had a 150 ft reef tank in the past, I kept the lights and the Euroreef skimmer. I didn't want to go as big this time so I went with...

Which is the best? I realize that most people will jump on IceCap, but they are just simply too expensive to buy 2 of them for 8 bulbs. I also don't want to overdrive the bulbs. What is the best "lower" price ballast or are they all the same? I've seen ballasts online from Advance, Sylvania...

Well now I am in it for the long run. My basement wont be ready for awhile so the inwall 120g is on hold. So....This is my new project. I have purchased 2 40g breeder tanks. 1 is in for drilling and I picked up the other one today which will be the sump. I am doing a DIY stand and canopy. I...

I have PC lighting right now. My two white bulbs work sometimes and sometimes they don't. They are new bulbs and we have changed a couple ballast, but I'm not sure both of these bulbs have a new ballast. Any way I am thinking of switching out to T-5s. I heard they are cooler to run and will give...

I ordered 48" T5 Ice Cap reflectors from Championlighting.com about 3-4 weeks ago now, and recieved all of them except 2. On the invoice they said that they owed me 2 and would ship them out to me when they get them in. I called them and confirmed that they would send them out to me and I would...

Need aadvice on reflectos for the 6x 54w 48" t5 i'm building. Sunlight Supply has a new reflector the TEK II has 29 linear surfaces and the old TEK only has 10. They say the new one put out 300% more light. Has anyone seen these? If so how are they compared to PFO or somthing like that?

I've been doing some research ono reef tank lighting and have read on a number of sites that 6 54w T5's are equeal to a 400w MH. Is this true? what woul dbe the difference? If true why woul danyone be using MH at all? T5's would be cheaper and cooler. Can anyone confirm this? I'm would assume...

As many of you know I have a Lux meater and T5 bulbs over my 50G tank. When I bought the bulbs I took some readings, and have been tracking their light output over time,.. this is an update as to where we are now. For these tests I am placing the Lux meater's probe on the tank centerbrace...

90 gallon tank Currently have 4 VHO super actinics with 660 ballast, 2 standard blue actinics with ballast. Corals seem to be doing fine but i think they would color up a lot better with MH. How can i add MH? Will i need another ballast? Will i need a chiller? Currently have fan blowing down...

I'm sure this will fuel a fiery debate.... I've been told PC's are the best and I've been told T5s are the best. Whos right? BTW I know MH are truly the best! This question pertains to fluorescents. I have a 75g (w/canopy) so when I set it up I got 2 96w PCs (retro) I was going to get...

After posting some questions about FOWLR's and doing alot more reading and research, I'm trying to decide the best to way to set one up. I'm considering either a 55, 65, or 75 gallon tank. After reading about several of the fish only species that I mentioned in my other thread, there are alot...

The T-5'S won so far on appearance and light distribution hands down! you might not see it in the pic's but if you were standing here you would need sunglasses!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brent. Brent.

Hello again all  Ok, I am still looking at the 72 Bowfront that is 48 x 18 x 22. If I was to go to T5 lighting, what would you suggest and how many bulbs do you think i would need? And would I be able to keep corals that require more light than PC's ? I am currently running 2 PC's 1...

Me and a friend are turning two 29 gallon tanks into a sump and a reef tank, and the tanks length is sort of weird as finding any VHO lighting or good PC lighting is a pain, the tank is 30x12x18,.. I never liked the height, it's always seemed to tall for PC lighting.. and I cant find anything...

I have a 4 bulb fixture for my 75 gal from Marineland. If I want to stick with a 4 bulb fixture, is the Tek superior to Marineland because of the reflectors? I have a BTA.

ok, so here is my idea. I am looking around for lighting for my new 29-35 gallon. I would really like a 250 DE MH with 2 x 24 w HO t5 bulbs. I know that I need good reflectors but I was thinking, what if i bought all the DIY parts (i.e., 250 w DE MH socket, ballast, bulb, 2x24w HO t5...
