Hi all!
This is my first post here, so if I am doing something wrong, please inform me!
A little background first...
I have been operating freshwater aquariums since I was six years old, and have decided to move onto saltwater. My current plan for the new aquarium is a 50-60g tank w/fish and...
Was looking for something better or more affiant to Cleanthes gravel..

Anyone know where I can get dolomite gravel? Search leads me to Amazon which that product says it has a "breathable" coating that some rviws refer to as resin. Don't think I want resin in my tank. Other options come up as bulk grade and that is too coarse a grade. This used to be the go to for...
Long of the short, I'm considering removing my current substrate (gravel) to sand. My tank is about about 3 years old. It's 55 gallons and I'm running a wet/dry in which I'm slowly pulling out the bioballs at this point because my rocks are doing most of the filtration. I've got about 60...

When I told the manager at one of the LFSs that I was using crushed coral, about #4 size as my substrate, she said, "You can expect to have a lot of dead fish with that."
What do you think that is all about?
FYI: This crushed coral is one of my stupid-taxes. I had planned to buy aroganite...

What are the big picture differences(pros and cons) between a barebottom tank, a crushed coral and or gravel tank, and sand? I have a crushed coral/gravel tank and a sand tank, but I dont know which is better to have. Are they all good for different purposes? Who can answer that?
