When I clean my sponge filters, I use salt water. Why? Because I don't want to kill off the bacteria. Is that REALLY neccessary? Would washing off with cold tap water REALLY kill off the bacteria? Or is this an old wives tale? Any evidence in either direction?

I just spent three hours reading through the DSB myth thread and decided in all fairness to put up a pro DSB thread. Although I have not been in the hobby as long as many on here have. I research constantly for ways to improve the quality of life for the animals I choose to own. This is in no...

Any and all reccomendations would be appreciated! Tank (125 gallon) has been running for over a year now, but I have always struggled with higher than normal nitrate levels. I think the cause of this is the fact that I went with a mixture of crushed coral and sand bed. It is probably a 3"...
