I am replacing all of the filters in my reverse osmosis system and saw on several whole house systems that they recommend sanitizing the system with bleach once a year to prevent bacteria. Is this necessary with reef systems? Anytime i hear bleach and aquarium in the same sentence i cringe.

I have been looking through a lot of threads on here about using a filter sock and cleaning it by soaking it in bleach. My question is, how do you ensure you get all the bleach out of it so it doesn't seep into the tank? Does bleaching it make the water flow through it like it is new again?

Hey All, I have been having a few problems lately and I think they may be related. For the past couple weeks, I have had a brown "hair algae" outbreak with strings on most rocks, corals, and the side glass. I am guessing this is diatoms. I thought they would clear up on their own by now but...
