bicarbonate buffer

  1. The THINK Tank
So this question stems from pool water chemistry. Somthing often used to raise ph and alkalinity is sodium bicarbonate. Why couldn't you use it in a reef aquarium? Has it been done before? I have access to it in bulk supply from my pool business so I was just wondering.......

Using my own inline RO/DI water supply. If have algae means have phosphates, then how do most you pro's eliminate phosphates? Water changes to bring out algae on glass faster after each glass cleaning. Have calc reactor, skimmer, etc... What is the secret to eliminating phosphates?

Ok, I know that Magnesium and Calcium go hand and hand, Strontium is also somehow added as well. What exactly are all the relationships with the three, how do they work together and against each other?? What levels of each are going to be most beneficial and stable in a reef tank, and if one...

Does anyone have some advice? We have a reef tank set up, its been up for about 4 months. Can't get the calcium levels to increase. Just bought a protein skimmer seems to have fixed the nitrate levels. My mushrooms in the tank are not seeming to happy right now. I started adding just straight...

hey all, It is finally time that I get my calcium reactor set up. Only thing is, I have never owned or operated a calcium reactor before, so I need help. Can anyone take some time and help walk me through how to set it up and get it properly set? also, I have a milwaukee pH controller...

i have my RO water filled up in my new tank. The heater is on and heating the water. I have 4 powerheads running on the top of the tank on each corner. I am ready to mix the salt and add pH buffer. I just need some advice on the best way to do this. I bought Instant Ocean salt and a pH buffer...

My PH is always up high. 8.8 usually. (Source is like 7.8 ???) Should I be trying to lower this? I add calcium, purple up sometimes, but no PH/ALK buffer of any kind. These typically raise PH or ALK, don't they? My ALK is usually high too. About 9-10 range now. Was staying at about 11-11.5...

I ordered a 90 gallon reef ready AGA tank today. Would've got the 75 gallon but the 90 was on sale for the same price. It should arrive in 3 days. It's official, the 90 gallon tank build has begun

Hi everyone, this is my first thread ever. So help me god if my grammer and proper ettiqutte is wack! Anyway I just switched over to RO water to do top off's in my 90 gal. Seems like everytime i do a water change with my top off water (distilled) it effects my alkalinity, should i buffer my top off water to get it to a good alk, i think the top off is 80mg/l but my tank water is like 200-300mg/l i think or meg/l or whatever just wondered if anyone else does...

So I was thinking... The Ksp (kinetic solubility constant)f or calcium hydroxide (kalk). is 5.5x10^-6 at room temperature 22-25C. Which means that a saturated solution contains 0.028 moles/liter. This is converted to 1.122g/l taking the mass of calcium to be 40.078 g/mole. There are 3.785...

"IO is great on alkalinity buffer, but low on calcium-Oceanic is high in calcium, but lower in alk buffer,,,therefore a mix will balance the mix." Has anyone ever heard this? Sounds logical...

I've been trying for several weeks now to raise my pH, KH, and calcium levels. They started at pH=7.9, KH=9, calcium=300ppm. I dose kalk with my top-off water, and I've been using Seachem Advantage Calcium and Seachem Reef Carbonate to raise KH and calcium. So far I haven't been able to make...

hello I recently setup an RO DI unit in my new house, and wanted to know what the pH of the purified water of your systems was? the water going in has a pH of 7.6... and my water coming out was higher than this. my LFS thought that it should go down after the RO DI system not up, so I thought I...
