I live in Muskogee, Oklahoma and I am blessed and still have electricity, but how long will my tank stay up if I loose the heat and circulation? We are thinking of getting a generator. They are selling them like crazy here. Like get in line and take a number and maybe you'll get one and maybe...
I have not been around in a while...big things going on.
Making a move to CT from Long Island--so it's not too bad.
Moving 2 tanks a 20 and a 55---
I'm going to throw all the rock in 2 tubs and put the 4 fish in some type of container
I'll put all the snails and crabs in another container...put...
Hi all, long time no see :)
It was a crazy summer so I wasn't on the boards much, but things didn't really get hairy with my tank until I made the big move from Toronto to Nova Scotia in the middle of October-- over 1000 miles of driving.
I decided to move everything (lps, softies and fish)...
Next weekend I will be driving from NJ to GA for my move. Lets say with stops because of the kids we end up at 15 hours.
I want to keep my corals, I was thinking of packing them in a cooler full of tank water, enough to fit a small tank like a 10 or 20L. Get some of the battery operated air...
My family and I recently moved to Hilton Head Island, SC and I'm trying to plan for the eventual power outage. I had planned on just buying a gasoline powered generator until I learned this: during a mandatory evacuation (hurricane) all electricity to the island is turned off, and I having...
PLEASE DO NOT CALL OR PM ME AND ASK ME TO PIECE PART THE SYSTEM OUT! I AM NOT WILLING TO DO THAT AT THIS TIME.
I've been in the hobby for 5 years, but have found my life a little too hectic right now to be able to properly care for our little "finned" children....(I have a 1 1/2 year old son...
Ok, I am being forced to move out..didn't feel like paying an additional $100 a month...so I have a couple Q's...here we go:
Q: How do I transport the LS?? Do I just scoop it out into a bucket ??
Q: I wanted to add about 2-3 inches more of sand. Would my tank go through a mini-cycle ??
Q...
I'm thinking of those thin, silver 'thermal' blankets they sell for emergencies in the car or camping section of department stores. They are designed to keep body heat in, would they keep the heat in a tank if needed?
I was ok with the blackout because I have battery operated air pumps that...
We had a power outage today of 1 hour and 15 minutes. The tank looks ok but it really started to smell after about one hour of no water movement. What is the longest a tank should go without circulation? What happens? Should I do a water change?
Advice?
With an impending ice stom on the horizon...what do you do to protect your aquarium in such an event? We cannot afford a generator so close to Chistmas and the stores that rent them are out. I don't want to loose my investment so I'm looking for those pearls of wisdom that this board is so...
Good Morning early risers!
With the late revelers from last night, this "Good Morning" just about overlaps yesterday's! Caffeine is a must at this hour of the morning!
Looks like a fine not-quite-Fall day on Rocky Top with temps forecast to be 87! I'm not quite sure what the...
Hi folks,
I'm moving at the end of the month. The drive alone is about 5 hours.
I had planned on putting rock, corals, and fish in rubbermaid tubs with battery operated air pumps. The heat is worrying me though. Even though I have airco in the car, the sun beating into the back of the...
We just got told tonight we have 2 months to find a new place to live. The owners are getting trransfered back to Columbus and are going to need to move back into thier house.
Which means that I'm going to have to move all of my tanks... :( It also means that I'm going to be setting up the...
A fellow reefer on RC just had a tragedy, losing fish due to lack of surface agitation/oxygenation when the tank ran without a skimmer for several hours. The skimmer provided the only means of surface agitation during that time.
We have all read reports from other reefers where such losses...
