I was a little dismayed with Neptune Systems Apex platform for a couple of reasons (proprietary, expensive, lack of options), so I decided to build one for myself!
100% open-source (P1AM is literally just an Arduino MKRZERO in IP20 housing.)
100% off-the-shelf components

This is a barely used (came on once every 2 days via Apex for 9 months) Vertex Neck Cleaner Engine.
It is attached to the Vertex 180 skimmer lid, but it can be used with any lid you want to modify, or purchase their universal lid.
$100 shipped via UPS anywhere in the CONUS.
First off I have to say that running a dosing pump for Calcium and Alkalinity has been one of the best moves that I have made for my SPS corals. This is going to be a long post, but I think that it is valuable for anyone dosing to read.
When I started to dose, I began by simple adding a small...
Many of you are probably frustrated that your 700$ apex controller does not have the ability to monitor the rate of change of your sensors. Or maybe you never thought about it but it sounds cool now. I decided to develop a system to monitor the rate of change of pH and turn off my dosing pump if...
Has anyone here completed the black box hack and control their SB reef lifts with their Apex? I'm thinking about getting 2 16" basic lights from them to run on my 90g. I want to be able to control everything, ramping and all with my Alex. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
To say I am proud of my tank is an understatement. I built it exactly how I wanted and this bad boy is on cruise control. I never planned on getting a controller but looking at my investment into relaxation of close to $4000 now, it would be silly to lose my tank to a rouge heater or chiller.
Man, 6 months ago I switched from DA to neptune thinking I was getting the latest/greatest controller on the market.... well I guess not. Its now replaced with something better. I don't know how I really feel about the new base unit though. It appears to not support the display?? I already have...
Curious to see who has 2 temp probes running. I have been thinking of getting a second to put in my display tank. I'm not sure if this would help or make any differences. Not even sure if there is much of a difference in temps from sump and display tank. If you are running 2 probes, why, what...
