I've been waiting 5 years for this book! And now, it will be in my precious hands on Thursday.:) Anyone else had one pre-ordered?
Charles chimed in about the book here:
Why is it so important to have uber-clean water for sps tanks? I know that soft corals are an issue with the various "clear the way" toxins, but nutrients? Doesn't that justmake your tank look like scheiBe?
The author of this book was Walter H. Adey. We discussed his education and background - qualifications - in this thread.
Everyone that was chomping at the bit to discuss the theory and methodology, now's your chance.
I'll copy the...
I am a new member here at the reef tank and have enjoyed the forum thus far. I posted a thread in the general discussion forum about setting up a new reef tank and it was suggested that I repost here.
First some background: my current setup is a 58 gallon reef ready Oceanic tank...
I am new to this forum but not new to the reef keeping hobby. I am posting this message to get some advice and help in locating some up to date articles, books, and information about setting up a reef tank. My current tank is a 58 gallon reef ready oceanic that has been setup for...
Ok I am getting this red nasty red algea with big *** air bubbles in it on the sand bed, on the live rock, on the filters, etc. It is nasty.
I keep blowing it off with a big turkey baster, but it comes back pretty quickly.
What is it? Why is it here? Why does it come back. How the hell do...
1) Macros don't out-compete hair algae. Never did, never will. See Adey...
Example, my 40g breeder crashed. Nothing alive. Added macros. Got hair algae all over it - no micro-grazers there! (Fe didn't help)
I cleaned it out. Set it up again, added macros, lots of pods. Hair algae free now...
I am very new to this. We are having a problem with diatoms and now red bubble algea on the substrate.
Here are some of my parameters:
Water used is tap....no RO/DI
We have every bottle of Kent product available. What do we need to...
I know there is another post on this stuff a couple days back, but I came home to find all sand in the open covered with a brown algae. There are also a few patches of a reddish algae, that is almost like a mat on top of the sand. I have a 46 bow with a 2 x 96w and a 55 w PC light on. I keep...
I have a reef tank. It was running beautifully for about a year when I started to notice a deep red, almost wine colored "slime" growing on my live rock, substrate, glass & even on my macro algae. It is very delicate to the touch. If I pick up a piece of rock & shake it, the stuff comes right...
I want to keep a manderine(sp) fish in a 55 gal with about 45 lbs of lr. Now before you scream, I plan to attach a refugium to keep the beautiful little bugger from eating all the copepods. I have a 29 gal tall I plan on plumbing over as the refugium. The idea is to pump water from...
I have noticed over the last year or so that when reefers buy wet dry systems they immediatly remove the bio-balls. The reason reefers do this is the worry of anobiolic bateria growth. This bateria will turn the bio balls into a nitrate factory. With this being said I believe that bio balls are...
I've had this brown slime on my tank subsrate for a while now i know it is some type of algae but do not know what is causing it or howto get rid of it my nitrite is 0, nitrateis 0 and ammonia 0 PLEASE HELP
How do i get rid of it?
Ok, I know I am kind of all over the board here but here goes:
First, I should say that I have NOT been using RO water. I have been using plain old aged tap water. I know, I know-Im a terrible reefer. But I really didn't think I'd get into corals or other inverts (little did I know... ) So...
