actinic bulb

  1. General Reef Discussion
I was wondering how many actinic bulbs i could have running on a 55 gal. I want to have a more of a blue look to the tank so the corals can flourese more. Could i have more actinic bulbs than 10k bulbs. Or would this effect my tank in a bad way?
  2. Lighting
I saw a post where Marineduud said a Workhorse ballast will replace the ballast for dual actinics (130 W) in the Outer Orbit 1042. I went to the Light Bulb Depot in Jax, but now I have them and see there is an extra wire (four reds and one yellow). Is there anyone that can tell me how to hook...

36wx4 $179 or 96wx 2 $79, While the t5s will be brighter even at the lowerr wattage (with proper reflector), is it worth paying twice as much? I ran PCs before on small tanks with good results 5 years ago when t5 HOs were virtually unheard of. Now I come back to the hobby and all I here is pc...

I have a coralife aqualight for sale, it has two 65 watt Actinic and two 65 watt 10K compact fluorescent lamps, easily removable acrylic lens cover, and two cooling fans. Also has 4 moonlights. I just replaced the actinic bulbs, they have less than 24 hours of use on them. One of the 10K compact...

i just had to downgrade to a 50g tank due to a leak in my 125g. since it is a smaller tank i think i am going to take advantage of the lighting for it. I just ordered a 48in CF light with 2 actinic and 2 12000k lights at 65w each. is it safe to add some sps like birdsnest and such? i know...

I have a 90 gallon tank and just purchased a copperbanded butterfly to get rid of aiptasia and because it's a beauty, anyways within a couple hours of indroduction I watched it eat 4 or 5 very small aiptasias but haven't seen him eat anymore since then, also, he has only eaten one or two items...

Alright so I should lay out what we got instead of just harassing people. There's the 75 gallon, about 15g sump. Well, it's not really a sump I guess, just a fuge with a place to put the skimmer. The 75 has about 100 lbs of LR (about...), corner drilled to the under stand fuge. The fuge is...

I have a 48" unit with 2 150w bulbs. I replaced bulbs about a month ago. Everything seemed fine after I changed the bulbs, but recently I noticed that one side of the tank is much brighter than the other (and, one bulb is brighter than the other). What's wrong? I just swapped the bulbs...

I bought a used 30g setup with livestock from a good friend who was getting out of the hobby. Before I would take possession of the tank I read his 2 books twice, then bought one of my own and read it twice. This brought me up to speed on what I had missed since college. Liverock, livesand...

I started out trying to break into the Reefing world back in 03. I planned and planned, and even purchased a 75G tank, had it drilled, built a stand and canopy before my Industry and job at the time took a nosedive. I managed to keep a 5 Gallon Nano Tank for awhile, but eventualy it had to go as...

Okay, well i was trying to find out how long to keep my lights on and i found this: For instance, a popular hood nowadays is the compact flourescent hood incorporating an actinic bulb, a full spectrum bulb and a moon light. You could set up the timer to turn on the actinic bulb to go on first...

My 90G tank has 3 T5 bulbs over it. Two are 10K, one is Actinic. They are two fixtures, a dual bulb/single reflector and a single bulb fixture. It is nowhere near enough light for my zoos, mushrooms and polyps. The tank is 24" deep. My 10G holding tank has the 13W PC bulb canopy that came on my...
