Every aquarium these days has live rock in it, whether it's a fish only tank or reef. It adds great bacteria to speed up cycling and looks very natural and adds hiding places for fish and inverts. Live rock is a must for reef tanks so that corals can live by attaching to the rock. I always add little pieces of rock on the bottom, medium in the middle and large on the top, I find it's more secure that way. But be carful when buying live rock becase it's so expensive!

The natural look along with the bacteria that allowed my tank to cylce in about a week! Also be careful that you buy it from a local fish store so you can get pre-cured rock, so it doesn't take weeks to cycle!

I loved everything about live rock!

This test kit may look a bit intimidating when you first open the box, but once you read the instructions you'll find it to be a very simple test, with easily repeatable results. It was quite obvious to me that the people at Red Sea put a lot of thought and effort in to producing such a quality product. The quality of the components (glass sample vial, professional titrator, etc) made this kit worth every penny! The kit was very user friendly and the results were easy to read/see! The price was initally a bit of a shock, but when you compare the Red Sea to any of it's competitors, it is...

Professional titrator makes it easy to add the titration fluid one handed and still be able to swirl the sample around in the vial after each drop.
The hard plastic storage case is a really nice touch! Now more worrying about splashing a little water on a cardboard storage box!
Red Sea has great customer support. They have even put together a video series demonstrating each test kit they offer. Here is the Magnesium Pro video!

Refills for the kit are available for around $12. Not that I will need one in quite a while, 100 test will last me a very...

This is my favorite salt mix, it is a little pricy but I love the increased calc levels. According to the tables at an S.G. od 1.025 which is where I maintain my S.G. the calc level is 480 PPM. I did notice that I did not have to dose as much two part to keep my calc levels up. I apologize as I would have kept a record of this but it has been over a year since I changed salt.
|
| Liked about it: |
High calc levels right out of the bucket.
I definitely noticed increased growth compared to the regular I/O I was using before.
|
| Didn't like: |
Mixes rather slow, I mix for 48 hours compared to 24 with I/O.
A little more expensive than Reef Crystals.

These skimmers are great. I have two of them and love them. the neck washing system is good but you still have to clean it out every now and then. It will not fit into a megaflow 4 sump though as the dimension that they give you is without the return elbow on. Thank you red sea for FINALLY making a skimmer that ranks up there with the rest. You will not be disappointed with the skimmate production and ease of use this skimmer has.

Easy to use and set-up.

Big and Bulky, did not fit in my megaflow 4 sump

Testing your magnesium levels has never been so easy. I love this test kit! It has everything you need to get accurate and quick readings. Tests consists of three parts, the last part is the one you have to add in intervals to accurately measure your levels. It is very accurate and with this kit you can get your tank nice and stable. Magnesium is too often overlooked when its one of the more important additives in your tank. Great test kit!

Test tube is marked accurately, and the syringes are very useful. Most kits don't include syringes, but Red Sea goes all out and makes it easy on us. The test is easy to read. Its either Blue or Pink.....Blue is final color, there is no colors between the pink and blue so there is no guess work. Great test and incredibly accurate if carried through correctly.

| Didn't like: |
I don't like having to read the instructions because there's more than 7 steps. Testing is time consuming, and has to be carried out in a specific manor, but its to be expected to get the results that you desire.

I used this on my coral system in conjunction with Red Sea Coral Trace with great color and growth in my SPS and LPS corals. This is a good supplement for a tank that just need a simple calcium supplement and buffer without having to do a complex kalk or calcium reactor.
|
| Liked about it: |
Simple to use, fast dissolving, raises calcium and buffers equally.
|
| Didn't like: |
as with any calcium supplement you need to test your calcium and alk before and after dosing.

This test kit exceeded all of my expectations. The instructions were the first thing that impressed me, they are very clear and easy to follow. Red Sea also includes a color chart for both before and after the test. This will help to ensure that you did the test correctly. The step by step coverage is excellent and it was just as accurate as any other Ca kit I own.
Although this kit costs about 1/2 the price of some other Calcium test kits, keep in mind that this kit will do only 25 tests. Others will offer up to 100 Ca tests in one box.
My overall impression of this test kit was very good....
|
| Liked about it: |
Instructions are clear and straight forward
Very easy to perform test
Seemingly accurate and repeatable results
|
| Didn't like: |
Kit contains only 25 tests
Getting all of the components back into the box can be a challenge

| Installation and Operation: |
When I was setting this up in was in response to an emergency with a smaller tank, so it needed to be quick to setup and easy to get going within a few hours. The RedSea max comes well packed, and most equipment is ready to use out of the box. Setup was pretty easy and straightforward.
|
| Performance vs. Expectations: |
Overall the performance is great, although there are a few things that could use some improvement...
The heater on this unit is one of the better heaters out there, although it does tend to fun a little hot. The cooling fans are barely enough to keep the tank temperature down during the summer, although it's not as low as I would like it to be. In general most people will probably need to run all of the cooling fans or use a chiller.
The lighting is very high quality and I definitely like the way everything looks under these T5s. The only complaint I have here is that the actinics can't be...
|
| Value for money: |
This definitely is still a great value for your money, but it is one of those tanks that has unseen costs if you plan on upgrading equipment and keeping more delicate and demanding marine life.
|
| Customer Support: |
So far I haven't had to contact the customer support.
|
| Liked about it: |
-Easy and quick to setup
-Good build quality
-Lighting makes the colors pop (I don't have much lighting experience though)
-All cords are hidden and controllable from the access panel on the left side of the tank
|
| Didn't like: |
-Heats up pretty quickly and gets close to 80F daily
-Nozzles aren't overly adjustable and there are sometimes dead spots without the use of additional powerheads/pumps
-Skimmer doesn't really do much, loud, obnoxious, and adds a lot of heat

I tested this product over a few months in my mixed SPS/LPS system with good results. I normally don't use additives but after using this and seeing some better color and growth i would recommend it. If you don't do regular water changes you should really pick something up like this
|
| Liked about it: |
Simple to use, Improved growth and color when dosed correctly, decent price range for the length of time it takes to use it.
|
| Didn't like: |
As with any supplement you should always use caution to ensure you don't overdose.
