After a fiasco with US Air, I finally got my LR from paragon.. verrrry nice stuff let me tell you.

Anyway.. chased most of my fish and got them out of the tank... just a couple of shrimp and my mandarin are left in there. I put the SD in and whoosh... milkwater..... it is extremely cloudy. I am watching fro the mandarin hoping to catch it. Anyone have any idea how long this will take to clear up enough to assemble my rocks. I have half my rock in the Container paragon sent me.. the other half in a 30 gallon I purchased along with my corals and fish. Will the fish be okay in the 30 gallon overnight with a mini-powerhead...??? Its a rio 300 i think. I got the heater in there now too. Nice tank really.. an all glass 30.. gonna turn it into sump/refuge after this i think

Dave,

The only way to speed the clean-up is to put mechanical filtration on the tank...but then you will lose all the good small stuff.

Did you put the sand in dry? Or did you let it age a week or so in salt water as I suggested.

Also, you will find that tomorrow, if you gently wipe off the front glass, the water will look a bit clearer. The fine stuff tends to stick to the glass.

Bill,

I didn't have the equipment to do that, though I did rinse it before putting it in. Question I have now is what do I do with the LR that is in the styro? should I run down to walmart and pick up another tank to put it in just to keep it wet? Or just put it in my tank and let it do its thing in there?

No Dave don't filter it. You will lose the fine sediments that help a DSB work. Just don't let any powerheads blow across the bed for a while.

Okay.. I put the LR that was in the styro in the tank... I have the pumps on but not the skimmer. If I need to keep the fish and corals in that 30 for a few days, will I need a filter or will they be okay in there on their own? It has a heater and light with a rio 400 mini-powerhead.

OK, wild man. Between you setting up this tank tonight and Brooke and Jon doing the same.

Do you have any live rock from before? Something you can put in the tank with the fish?
Even so, hook up the skimmer to the fish tank if you can. Monitor ammonia/nitrites. Have water made up for water changes. Keep the fish as dark as you can, and feed light if at all.

Hi Jerel,

Wildman?? LOL maybe... let me tell you, this would have been simpler with this at the beginning.. Kick myself for not doing the DSB from the start... Go ahead Alice
) I TOLD YOU SO!! heheh

To your questions. The 30 gallon has the new LR and a few of the mushroom LR from my 120 in it now. Total is about 70 lbs or so. It has a heater and light (turned off at the moment).

LOL
You should have plenty of LR in the 30 to support the fish load then. Just watch to be sure it doesn't go through a mini-cycle because it was moved.
I'd let it sit tonight and drop back on the lighting a little tomorrow.
Again don't feed much, if at all.
Try to hook up the skimmer to the 30, that's where you're going to need it.
Again, have water ready to change the 30 if it has a cycle.

Sit back, have dinner, and start over tomorrow

Thanks Jerel,

Did I sound a little tense?
I am/was. I will keep an eye on the 30 tomorrow and check the nitrite/ammonia and mix up some water just in case. I'll need to pick up another 5 gallon bucket for that. The LFS should have one.

Now if I can keep the cat off/out of the 30 thats on the floor!!! Gonna keep in locked up in the bedroom overnight I think.

Ohh and I won't be able to hook up the skimmer.. its piped with PVC into my 120 so no chance of that. If things get bad, I'll do water changes.
