I have some aptasia's and want to get rid of them.
Tried the pepermint shrimp wrasse killed it
Tried boiling water they spread
Tried calcium/ kalkwasser killed a few.
I have heard that green file fish will eat them.
Does any one know if this is true?
And are they totally reef safe?
I have never heard reference to a greenfile eating aptasia. Some fish that may are the Copperbanded Butterfly (Chelmon rostratus and the Racoon Butterfly (Chaetodon lunula) The racoon is the hardier of the two. Neither are guarenteed to go for aptasia and being butterflies, they are marginal inhabitants of a reef tank.
What wrasse ate the peppermint shrimp?
I've tried the racoon butterfly... didn't work for me. I really don't like the idea of keeping butterfly in my reef, though. Too risky.
You might start to consider whether you'd rather have the wrasse or the aptasia. You might want to temporarily get the wrasse out and put some peppermint in to eat the aptasia.
I have had a similar problem recently in the display tank, I now have 2 aiptasia there, and have since removed rock that has aiptasia to the prop tank, where I have 5 peppermints to eat these nuisance tube anemone. The wrasse that ate my peppermints in the display tank grew from stoo small to eat them to the size where, suddenly it decided to try them out for lunch./.. (female bird wrasse, Brown bird wrasse...) I am thinking of moving the bird out of the tank for a few weeks, although it is easier to remove the rock than it is to catch the shrimp once they have been released into 200+ lbs of LR... and as for catching most wrasses, well... once they are in the tank, you can kiss your wrasse goodbye (and your shrimp...)
Sorry, I couldn't help it...
