Tank temp question - chiller vs. room AC

I have a 180gal reef tank and I have the tank in my kitchen which is in the basement of my rowhouse (that's where all of my tanks are). I keep the tank's temp at about 77 degrees F. The CF raise the temp. about .5 degrees when the room temp is 65 degrees.

It is obviously winter now and things are cool. I don't have central AC and I would prefer not buying a chiller (very costly).

I was wondering, if I put in a room AC and kept the room temp under the temp of the tank, wouldn't that keep the tank's temp. where I want it? (I would also get the benefit of the AC also.

Hopefully this makes sense.

Thank you for your input.

Steven

I agree with Doug. Room AC would be better choice than a chiller. And you don't have to have the AC on that high. This past summer, my temp went up to 85 and things were just fine. You'll save some $ on the energy bill, too, if you don't set your AC on too low.
