White Strands on Aquarium Glass?

I woke up this morning and was looking at the effect the sunlight was having on my reef and noticed on the back and side glass panels a white strand that was about 4-5" long and curving.
Looked like the fish were picking at it because part of the strand was away from the glass and floating in the water but still attached to the glass.
All I can think of is it must be a snail doing its thing. Johnny

Just a wacko second-guess...

Look more closely at the 'strand', if there is pinnation (like a feather), then it could be the filter-feeding structure of a sessile ctenophore.

Those usually come in pairs, and can be very long indeed, reeled out from a very small base that can move only slowly.

Any chance for a photo?
Or (gulp) ...a sketch?
