i would like to get a calcium reactor and price is not a subject. This would be for a 120 gallon tank. I am getting tried of put calcium and dKH in the tank everyday and heard that calcium reactors take the work out of that issue. I know that i will have to check the levels at least once a week which is no bother to me. So really what is the best calcium reactor out in the market. Links would be great. I saw on this boards in the DIY section that a gent built one and looks good but not to sure about home made
I'm really happy with my K2R reactor (made at Coral Farms), especially since adding the second DIY media chamber. My advise would be to look for a dual chamber model of whatever brand you decide to go with.
It's been a while since I posted here.. I'll try to post more now.
Brandon,
I have to say that when you get a calcium reactor, you'll be soooo happy! It does take away that adding the two part additives to maintain Ca and Alk in your tank. It is a bit of a pain at first to tune it just right. But once you get it... you'll hardly ever have to worry about it again.
If you can't find a commercial model that has a second chamber, don't worry about it. You can always add it yourself.
I personally have K2R and no 2nd chamber, and I'm pretty happy with it. A friend of mine added a second chamber and it works great too.
Hi Brandon, you may want to check out Geo's site http://homestead.com/geosreef/reactordiy.html he makes reactor DYI style and I will get mine this week. I have heard great reviews about the reactors he makes. I am getting one of his dual chamber units at $125 shipped to your door, you supply pumps, CO2 tank and regultor.
just another option vs. the $300 name brand models.
A Korallin 1501 would be a good but expensive choice,very efficient use of c02,and has a very small footprint,so it`ll tuck away nicely under your cabinet.
FWIW,I paid $950 Canadian for everything needed to fire it up,(so about $3.59 in your bucks
)

When entering LFS,remind yourself it is much easier to ask fogiveness of your wife,than to ask permission.
i would like to go with a K2R model. I see you added a second chamber and would like to do the same. What is need to do so? I can't find a second chamber model anywhere on the net and so ready to do this. But worst case is to sell the one chamber once a two chamber comes to the market. I could always keep the regulator for a dual.
I emailed them to find more information on the parts they use. They just say high quality but you never know until you have the names of the parts they use
Theres a huge difference in price for the reactors considering you still have to get the Co2 tank and regulators and such.
If I were gonna spend that much on a calcium reactor I would go on IRC and get to #reefs chat and ask for recommendations. There are alot of serious SPS freaks on there that will give you brutally honest reviews of the products that are out there. IMO for $575 dollar difference plus extras some guy in a white lab coat ought to live in the sump cabinet and take care of it forever
