My fish store only sells excalibur skimmers that is what they use on their tanks. Does anyone know is anything about this type of skimmer? They are selling it for around $190.00 so any info before I buy would be helpful.
Gee I hate to bad mouth the product directly since I have no exp with it but let me say after 3+ yrs surfing boards I have not heard anything good or bad but no one is raving about it, I suggest spending the same $$$$$$$ on a "rated" Skimmer. What size tank are you looking at skimming???????????
Crickit,
I know nothing about the Excalibur, pro or con. When buying equipment for my aquariums, I try to go with proven equipment that has positive feedback; the more users the better. I presume you are looking for a hang-on skimmer for a tank with no sump.
I have an AquaC Remora on my 55 with a Maxi Jet 1200 powerhead. It does a good job and is very easy to use/maintain. It replaced a Knop that finally bit the dust after a couple years' use. Before deciding on the Remora, I researched the boards, ads, specs and any other info I could find before settling on it. I then surfed the online merchants for the best price. Many will match the price quoted by other companies so you can usually deal with your favored MO company. They run about $150 online. The Remora Pro (about $200 online)would probably be a better skimmer for the 55 but I'm quite satisfied with the standard Remora with the Maxi Jet.
