I will be picking up a new tank soon about 75 gallons after I put in live rock and sand.My question is should I just have a sand bed of 3-5 inches or should it be a plenum. All my other aquariums are clear bottomed, with trickle filter. For this one I will not have a trickle filter, what do you all think????.
Well my personal experience has been with plain DSB not plenums. I think the finer grained sand used in the deep sand beds are more infauna friendly and easier to put in and get going than a plenum. On the other hand some people have used both with equal success. As I stated in my earlier post the secret to success with either methodology is understanding the dynamics of the system you choose, enjoy
