Just back from Jeff's Exotic Fish in Gardena
(what a place!) and walked away with a new 26 gallon acrylic tank and a BakPak 2. If you don't remember me, we're upgrading my son's tank (or is it "ours") from a 5 gallon nano to 26 gallons.

Question, do you need the complete lighting system to start cycling the water? Say, if we started with sand & live rock, do we need the 110W as well, or could we use the lights that are on the nano? We probably aren't getting the lights for another three weeks or so.
But we're anxious to get started.

Thanks!

Hey Dak,
That's great! Now the fun really begins!

I agreee with Alice, NO lighting will be just fine for normal LR while the tank cycles. I ran my 55 with 3x40w NO's for 4 or 5 months when I first started it up before upgrading to VHO's. I kept mushrooms and a few softies with that setup, though that isn't recommended....they just sort of simmered along til they got the brighter lights.
The tank should also cycle just fine with just the LR/LS.
Congratulations on the new tank!
Dick
