Hi ec! We have just purchased our first elegance coral a week ago. At first there was no white flesh decay and rapidly over this time it has now advanced to 75% gone. As soon as I figure out how to attach a photo I will add it to this message. We are not experienced with this coral and are wondering if we can save it. The tank is 8 months old, we have lots of other corals that are doing great and only a few fish, non that touch the coral. Our parameters are ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate so little it barely reads. We feed phytoplankton and have just started to do spot feeding with reef roids and mysis. Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated. We do not dose tank yet as we have stuck with easier levelled things before.

Hi EC, I read a lot of your posts and realise you are a genius and hope you can help.

I bought an elegance coral frag on 10-Mar-14 have noticed it not opening very well since then.

I have a 30gal tank, with v2nano skimmer, 2xseio m650 pumps to move water. My lighting is 2 x aquaray 1000hd led lighting tiles.

My EC is placed in the sandbed approx. 24" below the lighting and slightly out of the direct beam beneath the leds. The flow is constant but light I would say.

    Water parameters are:

Phos: <0.25 but greater than 0
    Nitrate, nitrite and ammonia: 0
    pH: ~8.4
    Ca: 420
    Kh: 9
    Mg: 1200

I have tried feeding it by hand which is difficult as the frag (and food) is so small. The coral seems healthy-ish as it expands and contracts, had loads of colour and reacts to being touched by other track inhabitants..... It just doesn't open up or eat very well.

I have posted some pics on thread called 'elegance coral help'

Any help you could give would be great.

Hi Elegance Coral, I'm newly registered to this site but am often reading threads on here that i find via google. I'm not sure how to make a post but it's about elegance corals and you seem like the go to guy so I'm hoping you can help us:) can i ask if it's normal for an elegance coral to close up a bit after feeding? we've only had him for a week and he seems happy enough although ive read numerous times that they should open up x3 of their skeleton and ours is probs x2 although today after feeding he seems a bit shy (it's been about 30 mins so far). Also, when we feed him his tentacles turn a sort of dark purple when he grabs onto the food, sort of bruised looking, is that normal? it scared the crap out of us at first! the dark colour disappears quite quickly and he's eating ok. our lighting isnt the best at the moment but we have some new led ones in the post. we have 3 48" fluro t8s. any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. thanks heaps :)

Hi, while feeding the fish tonight, I noticed a growth on a rock and noticed what looks like a clam. Is this possible? I've been watching the area for a while which was getting larger and now it actually was opened like a clam. Please advise, should I be excited about this new addition or concerned.

HI, well thats good to know...glad to know im not the only one, seems everyone is against it including my LFS. They never vacuum and the tanks always look good. What about pods and such? Would i end up sucking them out too? My brother who is a serious diver and has a 300 gallon tank, vacuums everytime he changes the water. Why is it that some dont? wouldnt that be a bad thing?..I would think the sand would be so hard and full of crap, and toxic...any input on that? thank you

Hi, so you must vacuum your tank? i do every week. Once the gravel starts going up , i just release it enough to go back down and suck up the detritus. Just curious if you do..thank you

Hi! I was just wondering what your anemone was. When I bought my tank it came with one just like it and I was told he is a "bubble tip" but he never bubbles.

Thanks for your input I absolutely love the elegance they are so beautiful and calming. I just added my third specimen today. I knew you would have the experience to back up the statements as I too have found some of the internet information to be not so pertinent. Thanks again.

Since your the expert on elegance corals I was wondering if two separate elegance would sting each other or if they would leave others of the same species alone. I would assume they would still sting each other in a survival of the fittest showdown but just wanted your feedback. Also any ticks of the trade you have learned and would like to share would be greatly appreciated.

Hello EC. I was looking for the pics of your setup. Thought you had an epoxy resin bottom. May've been someone else...
