Regional Coral Frag Swap - May 21st
Okay - let's start making the arrangements - please post here what you have to trade or sell at the Regional Coral Frag Swap to be held from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 21st.
Please keep your post updated as appropriate.
The frag swap will be held at the Action Resource Center of Zoo Atlanta during Saltwater U ( www.SaltwaterU.com) - and though we would love for you to attend Saltwater U it is not required in order to attend the frag swap! If you are not attending Saltwater U we do ask for a $5 donation to help defer costs.
If you are coming only for the Frag swap - and do not plan on visiting the zoo you do not pay for zoo admission! (If you do plan on spending time at the zoo you can purchase discounted tickets at www.SaltwaterU.com for $12 - or regular admission is $17 for adults; $12 for kids 3 - 11; under 3 are free). But let me state that again - if you are only coming for the Regional Coral Frag Swap YOU PAY NO ZOO ADMISSION. Just come to gate C-5 and tell the guard you are coming to Saltwater U's Frag Swap. (If you are coming to Saltwater U you also pay no Zoo Admission, but are welcome to tour the zoo as admission was included in your Saltwater U fees. You also come to gate C-5 and let them know you are coming for Saltwater U).
If you are coming to Saltwater U or going to be spending time at the zoo - we will have "coral check room" set up - much like a coat check room. So you do not have to carry around your cooler all day (please do bring your own cooler though!).
If you would like to rent an entire table - please contact me via e-mail at info@SaltwaterU.com.
SO - let's start the trading!

I will have multiple items. Here are some:
1 encrusted frag of green M. digitata
2 encrusted A. yongei : green slimer
lots of zoanthid frags - mounted
several pretty rhodactis
A. nana colony 4"
possibly pink/orange M. cap frags
probably a good sized frag of ORA cali tort - encrusted
Probably others, but can't think of all right now.

Dont you think threads like this defeat the purpose of regional swaps? I mean we can do these types of threads anytime to try to sell or trade frags. I know the Tennesee swap was ruined by that thread on RC. By the time the frag swap started all the good pieces were already gone or held aside because all the trading went on via PM's way before the meet. I drove all the way to TN for nothing and ended up selling corals i intended to be for trade only just so i didnt have to take them back home. I left the Tennesee frag swap with 1 Coral

That's a point I hadn't thought about (I didn't go to that swap)--does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
In a sense, if you left the swap with only one coral, although it wasn't successful from your perspective, it sounds like it was very successful for those who did all their horse trading through the forums...I guess it just depends on the kind of frag swap we want to have. We want to get as many people as possible to come so that there is a great variety of corals available, and one way to do that seems to be to have a forum thread where people can advertise what corals they will be bringing. On the other hand, you're right in that we we want to be careful that people don't show up--especially from far away--and get disappointed by the lack of available corals to swap. I just don't know how to avoid it. My feeling is that the more interest we can generate, the better off we'll be, and this just seems to be one obvious way to do that...
Anyone else wanna chime in? We are open to any and all suggestions to the extent that we can accomodate as many people as possible. Thanks for your thoughts, Tom.

I am sorry that your experince in TN was dissappointing.
One reason for having this thread is to avoid the disappointment that you experienced. I participated on that TN RC thread and got some great birdsnest frags.
If there are folks coming from far away to trade frags, the benefit of such a thread as this, is that they can prearrange their trading and know that they will not have had to travel all that way with their frags in hand ready to trade and be disappointed in that there's special enough to trade for.
I hope folks will both post what they're willing to trade as well as bring a few extra frags so that when they see something unique that they can trade for it.
Bob

Much more...
In addition to the swapping - both arranged here and at the day of the event (which we hope will be very prolific!) we also have the "frag raffle" and there might be a surprise celebrity frag give away... (shhh)
AND - if you are at Saltwater U - even if you are not attending the conference - you can participate in the $1 raffle (YOU MUST be present to win so make sure you will be there when the tickets are pulled as you do have to be present to win - times will be posted) - and everybody can participate in the $5 raffle (you do NOT need to be present to win).
Walt Smith just told me he is donating 86 pounds of cultured rock to the raffle - add that to the many other items already donated!!!

I'm not sure yet if I'll make it to the frag swap but in my opinion I wouldn't drive across town to trade/swap unless I was sure I had a definate item(s) to sell/trade. Let alone drive to another state. However, at least with the SaltwaterU event you could go for that also.Just my 2 cents.

Hiya neighbors! I'll be coming down from Chattanooga with my family to spend the day. I have been really looking forward to this event. I'm organizing a new reef club for SE TN and N. GA, and several of our members are planning to make the drive down. I'll be looking for LPS for my new tank, so if you have any brain, blasto, or favia feel free to email me. Looking forward to meeting you!

Thanks for the welcome!
I wish I had some things to bring. All I have that's splittable are pulsing Xenia, that I don't think anyone wants. I do have these green things that have George Washington's picture, so I hope those count.
