yellow polyps, how fast do they spread?

i just had an accident with my yellow polyps (i wont say but something ate them that shouldnt have)
anyhoo theres now 75% of the colony totally gone (in someones stomache)
what i want to know is how long it will take for these "bald" spots to fill in?
how do they spread anyway? do they pop out polyp seeds?

just curious but how fast? im not familiar with coral growth lol
so to regain most of my colony back which is about maybe 40 polyps missing, will it take more than a month?

i dont wanna say lol cuz i think i made a mistake
ok ill fess up
i added a turbo snail the other day hes about 2"
i saw him hanging out on my yellow polyps, now i have bald spots. i panicked and too the snail out (put him in a cup)
now this morning i see that the polyps fluffed up again and look better, so realizing i may have accused the snail of wrong doing i put the snail back this time on the glass to give the polyps a break
i guess im not used to seeing my corals trampled on and it made me upset
so is this normal? corals being stepped on and poked at? and they make it ok?
