which nanocube is better
looking at nanocubes lately, i want one bad!!!! lol. looking into them though i see a few different makes and models. i like the dimensions of the 12gal. so jbj nanocube or current aquapod? seems like the aquapod has about 5watts more light, surface skimming filter, and about $20cheaper. but with the jbj they make a sapphire protien skimmer that fits in the filter chamber. (on nanotuners for about $100) do u need a skimmer on a nano? i was thinking about just doing waterchanges with water i take out of my main tank every week. what ones better?

As far as which one I think its personal preferance.I like the JBJ but thats just me.As far as a skimmer on a 12,it really isn't that important unless you have a really heavy bioload, regular water changes would be good enough.

Why put dirty water from your old tank in there though? That would be defeating the purpose. Maybe even making it worse....

dont do water changes with water from the main tank.
The purpose of water changes is nutrient export and element mineral replenishment. They have all been consumed from the main tank.
Not a good Idea at all.......

I have a 155 sps tank and weekly I dump the water into the softie nano, seems to be fine and it keep the tank rock solid since the sps tank is very stabile. the nano is fairly new though so hard to tell just yet, but I can't see a problem. Unless you dont do frequent changes of water on the main tank.

was just thinking my water quality in my main tank is probably better than i could ever achieve in a nano. even if it is a week old. ill prolly just have a few shrooms, zoas, and a saddle back clown. i just want it for on my desk here next to my monitor so i have something to look at when i start going cross eyed reading stuff on here!!
but as far as personal preferance goes, ive never had one, and never seen both of them togeather to compare to eachother. like i stated the aquapod claims to have 5watts more light for 20 bucks cheaper, and has the surface filter included. without a skimmer though, what would u run in it, just carbon? or would u run some sort of mechanical filter??

As far as the tanks go it depends on what you want to put in it,the jbj seems to be more popular with modifications to be able to keep a wider range of animals.Research the threads and you could do a pretty good comparison.Good luck and keep us informed on what you decided.

Using old water from a larger tank
I have a good 29G by Biocube. I was a very succesful Reef keeper in the past with a custom 320g tank and was concerned with the ability of keeping a 29g tank alive due to the small sum of water. With the larger tank I did'nt have to worry about over dosing the tank with elements. If you are using water from your other tank when doing water changes in your smaller then you shoud be fine if you have a protein skimmer and mechanicle filter running. You will need to do a 25% change of fresh sea water (or salt mix using RO) atleast once a month or you can be looking at some problems down the road

Welcome to TRT! Id would do the WC once a week on a nano so the water stays constant.

You can put a skimmer in both tanks. I run the nano fussion in my 24 gal aquapod. I'm very happy with mine. In fact I have 2

Did you mod the fission in any way? I tried it and didn't like it at all it was harder to adjust than doing a water change. So I scrapped it
