Which HOB?

Seems that the motor froze up on the HOB filter I had going, mainly for circulation. As I have it soaking in vinegar and hot water, I need to research which HOB i'll need to go buy tomorrow.
My nano is 10g. I had hoped to make a little refugium out of one...is that possible? I had a little light over mine but no algeas yet. Suggestions for a new HOB if I cant get this one up and going?????
Thanks guys!!!!

I'm sort of fond of the Aqua Clears.

On a 10 gal at minimum a 300 --- If it was me I would even consider a 500 --- would make a decent sized refugium.

I have a AC 200 on my Minibow 7 --- it's not enough. I think I'm going to try a Tetra Tech 300 next --- with the surge devise removed so I have two fully functioning outlets. This will allow me to use the heater capsule so I get the heater out of the tank.

No matter what you do those surface skimmer attachment things work really well.

OK so I just gave two different suggestions --- go figure.

Whats a surface skimmer attachment thingy???? Thanks for the recommendation on the HOB. I'll look into those. But again, what skimmer thingy are you talking about??? Is it part of the filter?

Nicole the Hagen surface skimmer is a neat device that will hook up to almost any power filter. It draws water from the tank surface to eliminate the nasty oily film that collects there.

You can get the Aqua Clears at Petsmart but I have not seen the surface skimmer there. Most LFS sells the Aqua Clears.

I think there is a petland or maybe Avarium that sells the surface skimmer for approx $14.00

Robinsonfamily might be able to help there.

yes charles is correct on that one. i put one on my tank and wow! what a difference. petland and aviarium both have them and are anywhere from 10-14 dollars. there is only one size and they have an adapter to fit most or all filters. i even put one on my fluval cannister. very eay to adjust and once you set it you forget it. easy to use

Is the general consensus that it is a good idea to run a surface skimmer ina nano?

Ray I can't stand the oily film that collects on the waters surface. While it may not hurt anything I just don't like the looks of it. The surface skimmer and some floss in the power filter should take care of that problem.

OIC. No worries, My powerheads break the surface of the water in my display tank to knock it down as well as in my nano.
