What's going on???

I just started a nano reef tank, and my first 2 fish are green chromis. First, does anyone know how to differentiate between male and female of this species? I know some fish have different sized dorsel fins.

another thing...I know that chromis are mainly a top tank fish, espcially when they group together. My 2 fish will probably spend 3/4 of their time hiding in a small burrow behind/under one of my rocks. when i do look to where they are, all i see is one of them halfway peeking out, while the other, i assume is inside. Is this natural behavior? sometimes, that one peeking out will come out, when i feed them, eat some food, then go back to his "guard duty". the second fish may come out partly to eat a little, then swims quickly back to its spot too.

Actually green chromis are usually only kept well in groups of 9 or larger in large tanks because they are schooling fish. By only having two they can't identify with a group so they just decide to hide away. It's okay for them to want to find a home in the rock but although green chromis are some of the hardiest of the damselfish they usually only live for very long times if they are in these large groups in an aquarium, which in a nano reef is impossible...
