What should i use as a substrate?

i'm about to start a 10 gal nano and i came across the problem of what to use i've seen many diffrent substrates and i was wondering what your opinions were, i plan on keeping a clown or clown look alike, some pepermint shrimp, some blue legged hermit crabs, maybe some shrooms and or a zoa any suggestion?

After several tanks with substrates, i'm going barebottom now...we'll see how it works, but the sand acted as a detritus trap in my case.
