Chris The only thing I see as not working in that, and I want You in and it will be up to all on this one is we won't be able to see Your start up to finish, I will wait for everyone on this to dicide what they feel about it. I have never done a nano and this will be a first for me. It may be the one I do for my wife in here office.

I think you should have to post pics, at certain points in the time line, gives everyone a view of what's happening. I would also like to put a cap, on the money you can spend, that makes it even for everyone. Tell me what you think.

Okay, I've updated the list of rule for the later suggestions. Please keep them coming, and I have a few thoughts too.

1) Chris, I know how it feels to get in early or late. I was frantic trying to get my setup off the ground as I came in late in our buildoff. The moderator was lenient when they called the contest end and some had problems with cameras, etc. so they allowed late submission of pics. My inclination is to say it's okay, but what if someone else says "Well, I just set mine last week, last month, etc. ,can't I get in." Check out nano.com and see their buildoff, they made everyone place a dated item in their empty tank for the start.
We definitely don't want to exclude anyone, for risk of this thing losing interest. After we get our competitors, I think we'll vote and see what they say. In the meantime, put some dated pics showing where you are with it?

2) We need to decide on total system volume. ReefMonkey used 25 gallons (I think they had the same advocates of 20 and 30 gallons total. Nano used a standard JBJ 6 gallon or something like that. It inhibited ideas about various tanks but I do think it'll be easier to vote (or maybe even harder) when the contest ends. What really constitutes a "nano". How about a few of ya'll googling to see if there's any concensus on that (but not excluding pico's, they're a super challenge and I've seen some exquisite ones)
3) Cost - Ho boy, start up a tank and keep track of costs and you'll be shocked. How will we judge what someone says it costs vs. some accepted value (for instance, taking frags out of my own tank vs. buying them, and what about those techno-freaks like me who have 175W baremagnetic ballasts just laying around that we scored off a downed light pole at the scrapyard?

All good points, I think once we have all the rules set in place here on a tread just for the building off so all of us and everyone else can go back and refer to them during the build off. I'm getting old and will have to read them over and over. LOL. I will need a week or so just to pick up a tank and all.

The volume issue does need a vote I'd say. I can stick with the under 20g rule no problem in fact now I am planing on it. As for classes or a limit on money spent I have a difference on opinion. I have seen some on-the-cheap tanks that just outright spank tanks with high price tags and softie tanks that simply blow away most SPS systems. I would go for a most original and most DIY class, though.

Are we all agreed on a 20g total volume max?

I hate to even question this, but if we limit it to 20 gallons total, what stock tanks will we end up with? Pretty much eliminates 20L and 20H, if you have a skimmer or sump, which are generally considered nano's.

Well i just read this whole thread and seems like there are some good ideas im in as well i voted in the size poll as well. I think thirty total gallons sound good wether it be a 30 gallon display or 20 gallon with 10 gallon sump just my thoughts.

I think it really isn't a nano tank at 30 gal display. I'd limit it to 20 with a 10 gal max sump.

Please everyone vote. If we don't get but 5 votes, I'll have to wonder if there's enough enthusiasm for this thing!
