man my wife will kill me if i get another tank, just installed the frogfish tank. maybe if we include really small nanos i can squeeze a 5 gallon into the kitchen somewhere, maybe in a cabinet... since she doesn't cook she would probably never find it...

Sounds good to me, I will post your quote in The Reef Club Forum: PNWMAS.

Here is what I was thinking of;

  • No limits on main tank or sump size as long as total volume does not exceed 30 gallons.
  • Must be a new setup, cant be an already established tank up and running now.
  • We can figure out specific start times later. Should we have an entire year or less? I was thinking more around 6-8 months.
  • Equipment choice is unlimited, as long is it is reasonable; i.e. not a skimmer that holds 5 gallons to intentionally add to system size.
  • Prizes given to the winner upon a vote at the end of the time alloted.
Just a few thoughts. I would be comfortable by starting as soon as possible; everyone respond on when would be good to determine the start date. We can post a thread for building in this nano forum, something like "Wharyat's nano construction thread BUILD-OFF" to enter the contest.

Everyone post to add any other rules or guidelines.

Also we need a mod to manage all the threads and all that good stuff.

Rules

*I was thinking of having a total water volume of the nano system of no more than 20 gallons.

*Use any type of tank that one would like.

*Set up the contest where it isn't just how many dollars one throws at their nano in order to win.

*A fresh water top-off, would not be part of the total water volume of the nano system. Making the health of the nano a top priority.

*Starting date and a ending date. Maybe with a 6 or 12 month time frame of the nano build off.

*Post updates in the appropraite forum, designed for the Build Off. Giving each entrant a dedicated thread that only they can post in, with updates & pictures. Have an overall build off thread where anyone can post.

*Make it a contest where ones knowledge and design ideas are ultimately shared with others, in order to further the understanding of the hobby.

*Start the system from scratch.
