transfering from a small tank to a bigger one

I have a 3 gal eclipse that doesn't work well for even the few critters I have -micro stars and tiny feather dusters plus an anemone that is supposed to be a pest but i like him.It also has a ball of macro algae and live rock that has the good purple stuff on it

I am going to buy an 8 or 12 gal bio cube. Can I transfer the water from the little tank and then add more a little bit at a time to fill it and avoid having to cycle it for a long time so I can move the occupants right away

The light has burned out on my current tank and I need to do something pretty quick

As far as I know, there would still be some kind of "cycling" period but with the live rock and water with bacteria in it, I think it would be ok (especially considering that you only have stars, etc). Do you have live sand? - that might help the cycle too.

I have sand in the bottom of the current tank

The light switch burned out on the cover so it's not just a matter of repalcing the bulb . Salt sprayed up into and shorted it and this happened 2 weeks ago As I was leaving on a trip

I know the little things I have aren't terribly valuable but I want to be a good caregiver for even the tiny things
.
Plus I want to be able to have at least one fish.

Do you Think if I put some water in the tank and ran it a day or soo and then transfered everything else it might work?

Water doesn't cause a cycle. You should be fine transfering everything over to the new tank. This is assuming that you don't have a dsb in that little tank.

I should have known. At least it brought back memories of days long gone. Oh how I loved the 8x10.

Here's a link set on flickr I took at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta last week on my trip. completely unedited

http://www.flickr.com/photos/4288214...7594568484244/

I mostly take zoo animals and waterlilies plus cycling photos like Lance Armstrong but don't have the cycling shots on flickr. I haven't played on this website.and am at work. Feeling stupid cause I can't quickly figure out how to put an image here

I want this fish tank

I assume you have been to the aquarium. I came to Atlanta just to go to the aquarium and to see the pandas at the zoo. I volunteer at the National Zoo in the panda area
