Thinking about starting a small nano

I am thinking about starting a small nano. I do not want to put a lot of money into this tank. I already have a large wet/dry filter (I can take the bio-balls out and put in live rock rubble), protein skimmer, UV light, and RO unit. I do not have lighting yet. I want to have a small reef, no bigger than a 10gal tank. I would want small beginer's corals and fish. Any suggestions? I can either do with project with a 10gal, 5 gal, or 2.5 gal.

I would go with the 10 I have a 5.5 and it's pretty small. Adding the sump and skimmer will help with keeping the small tank stable.

What kind of lighting are you planning?

Good nano corals are Zoa's, Shrooms, leathers

Compact fluorescent. Is that ok? I'm leaning more toward the 5 gallon.

The 5 gallon is cool if you click the link in my sig you can see mine you are very limited in fish selection but it will be much easier to maintain your paremeters with a sump

Im also looking at starting up. Main thing is cost so i decided to go with a 14g bio cube, all contained except heater. its going to cost me 580$ for starting out from scratch. talked to the store owner this morning actualy. the lights allon in the bio cube are worht 210.00 seperatly, the whole bio cube is 260.00. the the live rock and sand, 2 clown fish with anenome and basic test kit etc is 530 plus tax. so form my research, thats the cheapest entery level i can achive ( uless I look at a bunch of prity rocks )

No offense but I think you are getting majorly ripped off. $580 is a TON of money for a tank that small. Even if it is saltwater with all the highest-tech equipment.

remembering this is canadian dollars. and looking a t other dealers and the shipping for the tank 260 is not bad. The cured live rock and sand is about 200 then the critters and fish and test kit and heater adds up quickly.

I didn't realize that included live rock and sand. That makes a lot difference.
